Mobil 1 ESP 0w-40
I am thinking of swapping the 5w30 to 0w40 or else. The new factory oil for c7s brought my attention. Since ESP stands for emission system protection, do I still have to use the ESP 0w40 which has dexos 2 rating, even if I have already got rid of my catalytic converters? I can't really find anywhere to buy the ESP 0w40 in my area, but I do see some European car formular 0W40.
Is it okay to use the Euro formular instead of the GM recommended ESP 0w40 considering I don't have any catalytic converter?
Any comment is appreciated

This oil exists since several years in Europe, 0W40 dexos 2 is the same with the green label. It's not only a question of catalytic converters but also of viscosity, so switch to 0W40 if you can. I don't know if it is already manufactured in the USA for the moment, that's where your supply difficulties come from, it was only manufactured in the UK and many European cars use it. I used it two months ago for my LT4.

I mean, all I can find that close to the green labeled 0w40 is called Mobil 1 European Car Formula 0w40, which has a silver label, but it is not dexos 2. I'm just thinking if I should just use that one, or waiting until they manufacture the green labeled 0w40 in North America.
After browsing the internet I learned that the content of these two oil are slightly different. Something, which I don't have knowledge of, that the silver labeled 0w40 contains, is more than what's in the green labeled 0w40. And it's said that that stuff will damage the catalytic converter. That's the reason why GM made a dexos 2 standard. I'm not 100% sure about this but this is what I understood based on my findings.

Viscosity of both 0w40 are identical stated by Mobil 1. So maybe it’s just the matter of protecting the catalytic converter? That’s the reason why I’m thinking to use the non decks 2 0w40 since I went with catless.
Not sure if it has any different effects on our direct injection engines. :/

my 2019 Z owners manual states that mobile 1 5W-30 can be used for street use. ESP 0W-40 is required for track use. Not sure I'd switch from 5W-30 unless you track your car.
I get the new ESP at my dealer for $8.62 a qt. It's what I've been using even though I don't track the Z.

I read that the ESP 0w40 is backward compatible to earlier models for both street and track use. And I do sometimes track my car.
My problem is just there seems no where to get the ESP 0w40 but I could get the non-ESP 0w40 even at a discount price. I’ll go to another dealership to see if they have the ESP 0w40.
It seems like if I don’t need to care about the cat I could just go with the non-ESP 0w40 then.

The new oil should be used all the time, street and track. Has nothing to do with whether you track the car or not. It is a different chemical formulation that the European 0-40 that has been around for quite a few years now. C6 Z06's delivered in Europe all came with that European 0-40 oil. No different than any other technical change/enhancement that comes along as time goes on with any type of machinery.
I had a 2007 Z06 and switched before any US dealer I spoke with knew about the European oil. Dealers then had no idea that the oil was different in European Z06's.

Do you mean the ESP 0w40 or the European car formular 0w40?

0w40 full synthetic Mobile 1 is used in Europe since 15 years back in many cars, even normal passenger cars if you want a better oil. The lower range is the cold viscosity properties, and zero is better than 5! The upper range is warm viscosity properties and 40 is better than 35. Period.
If you are a track rat in the southern part of US I would even go for a 15w40 oil but this has poor cold start properties.

I’ve bought from this site before. Great customer service. They may have it in stock.

Mobil has stated the new oil may start appearing at retail stores sometime in the third or fourth quarter of this year. Since we are only days away from the start of the fourth quarter I suspect the only place to purchase the oil will be the dealer or the eBay seller who finally did deliver the oil.

I just visited a dealership nearby and ask them if they have any of them.
That man said GM don’t use Mobil 1 anymore but use dexos 2 instead. Mobil 1 oil change is expensive. Dexos 2 is cheaper.
How can a dealership be this unprofessional.

Sound like laziness to me. I would print out the GM Dexos 2 requirement and pass it along to your service advisor. If he does not read it then, that would be unprofessional. Keep in mind though that the dealer night not sell/service many Corvettes so I would cut them some slack.

Haha maybe. He seemed dead serious about that lol. He said I would get 3 free oil change on top of the 3 free ones that gm give me, if I buy a vette there. I just never know what oil those are gonna be.

Is that from your chemical engineering studies? 0W, 5W, 10W, 20W, 30W & 40W all have acceptable performance parameters to fall within that range and meet ASTM and SAE specs.
All fluids also have specific densities and most have additives that make them work. A blanket statement like yours is the equivalent from that famous commercial of saying "motor oil is motor oil".
Attached are the Mobil 1 data sheets for the new ESP 0W-40 and the 5W-30 products (which also contains 0W-20, 5W-20 & 10W30).
