Default How many of you do your own oil changes?

I usually do my own oil changes for all our household of cars. My 2017 Z06 oil changes have been done at the dealer and I have used up all my "free" oil changes. It takes forever at the dealer when I can do it fairly quickly at home. How many of you do your own oil changes? Does it impact your warranty if you do your own oil changes and keep the receipts with the dates in your home records?

I do all my own maintenance. Wish I could give you my free oil changes for my 19Z M7. Did the 500 at 524, both engine and diff. Diff was nasty btw, if it hasn't been done I'd do it. Pain getting to the fill plug. Get a 3/8" flex head ratchet and its pretty easy. Just did another change at 3000 and did engine, diff and tranny. Engine and tranny looked new, diff was a bit nasty but not nearly as much metallic waste on the plugs. Unless it's a warranty issue I almost never let anyone wrench my vehicles.

I do all of my own, from 500 miles on. I own a EZ car lift and take the time to go through everything under the car when I change the oil. Last time I took my Corvette to the dealership for an oil change (2012 GS) they used the wrong filter and over tightened it so much I had to destroy it to remove it.

I did the Diff at 500 miles like Bohacker, I agree that is must do maint.

I'll do oil changes myself, once the three free are over. I've had the free ones done at a super-high-volume Corvette dealership, where I've had much more challenging work done on my other Corvettes, so I trust them to get it right. So far, they have.
I wouldn't trust just any ol' Chevy dealership, and I wouldn't dream of going to a "quick oil change" place.

There's a Chevy dealership about 10 minutes away, but I drive about an hour each way to have any service work done at the high-volume Corvette dealership.

I have done my track oil changes (M1 15W50) since the dealer doesn't carry the oil. However, once they start carrying the 0W40 Dexos2 oil I will have them do the once per year oil change. Have had dry sump Corvettes since 2009 and haven't had an issue with a dealership screwing up an oil change. Sure I could do it myself and keep receipts of the materials I purchased but it is just easier to let them do it and not that much more costly. Along with the other service work I provide them such as diff fluid changes, and maintenance on my other vehicles they know me, they know how I use the car and they will go to bat for me if something happens.

Yes I always have. Funny timing on this question. I just got back from Walmart with my oil and filters for all of my cars. 4 post lift makes it pretty easy.

Thanks for all the replies. Nice set of cars !
I don't have a lift but just purchased the XT67 2-piece Race Ramps that seem to lift the car over 10" high up front.

I also just purchased the 5w-30w Mobil 1 at Walmart (10 qts) and it was around $45, then the AC Delco correct GM part# filter for $6. I was thinking about the warranty aspect of it. I guess if you have the records then the warranty is not an issue.

Race ramps, oil and filter from Walmart and you are good to go. Exactly like I do it. Been doing it that way for years.

Always did my own oil, on every car I've owned. Only time I had a dealer do my oil was at my 500 mile break in. And I had them do it so its recorded that I had the 500 mile oil change done.

I like changing my own oil. Idk why. I feel better knowing I did it.

I just did it on the z like 3 weeks ago. Too easy. I have to do it now to my family's cars and my daily before winter. Lots of oil changes to do lol

My local dealer has a great Corvette tech, so I have them do the free ones, but after that I change my own.

I staple the sales slip for the oil to my maintenance book. I record the date and mileage. Onstar can also see the reset of the oil life monitor.

I do all my own oil changes and always have. Have a 4 post lift in machine shed so it is very easy to do. The only oil change I will not do is the 500 change on my 2019 Z06 that will be built next week. Don’t want to risk possible warranty issue.

Do all my own. Haven’t used any of mine (except 500km) for my Vette or Denali. I’ve seen way to much carnage to trust the dealer to do it.

I had a white 79 z and a 80 z. Really liked them. How many miles does yours have? Mods?

Don't forget to get your Mobil ONE rebate! I'm only paying about half price for oil with this......
