Default Double DIN Head Unit (Stereo) Install Problems

I purchased a Kenwood DDX375BT and an adapter harness + antenna adapter. The main harness (stereo to car) wiring was straight forward and simple.
There was no connection for the small connector circled in red in the picture below. What is this connector for? After some research, it seems it's maybe an aux input? With my new head unit, this connector is not used.
After connecting it, and power-up, I got a continual "reset" flashing on the unit. I pressed the reset a few times, but it never turned on. All the pins in the connector are straight and not damaged.
I contacted the seller and will try to exchange it for another one - same model.
This just really sucks, working many hours getting this connected, and it fails.
I've spent much more on this than I wanted to, but it has all the features I want, including a reverse camera.

Looks like an amp input? So that's not required for my aftermarket head unit?

I'm pretty sure your adapter harness will need to include that 12 pin connector.
Maybe THIS ONE.

$119? I can't spend that much.
The harness I bought was $10. THIS ONE.

I don't have navigation, steering wheel controls, etc. My connections were as simple as I expected: 12V, ground, all speakers + and - and that's about all. Only additional items are the mic and connection for my rear camera.

Nope, and you need the radio converter module interface to install an after market radio in the vet.

Hence C6 runs power to the radio full time and it's the BCM command to the OEM radio that will turn it on, and put it back into sleep mode. The after market radio does not have such link to the GM lan bus, so the after market radio converter module interface is needed to install an after market radio in the vet.

So go to Cruchfeild, plug in what your vet is, if it has bose or not, pick any radio, then go to install hardware and see what after market module interface you needed for the install (to accept BCM commands over the GM lan bus).

Just a quick check of a 2008 with bose, and this is the two options for the install gear (module needed), depending on the added feature that the car has that the after market radio module will need to control on the GM lan bus.

OK. Thanks for the clarification. The interface is about to be the deal breaker.

What about THIS ONE? Seems that it would work for less $$.

I started this process by looking at $80 stereos with bluetooth. I thought that would be an implrovement to my NO-OPTION base-model C6. I went way above my budget and got the $200 Kenwood plus a rear camera.

Unlike most of you, I have 6 kids, 3 step-kids, and don't have bags of money laying around. My budget is very limited.

NO since that module suports features on the car that is sounds like you don't have on the car to start with, and lets make this simple.

What year vet, do you have bose or not in the car (look at the door speaker and if it has Bose on it), then tell me if the car has factory XM, on star, streering wheel controls and such.

Depending on the year vet, and if you don' have bose, no factory XM, no onstar, no steering wheel controls and such, then something like the Crux SOCGM-17C can be bought for $40.

If you do have the options listed above on the car, then you looking at something like the Pac RP5-GM11 that will be needed isntead.

I was about to comment on this post and then realized that I'm on my 3rd glass of wine. So I'll abstain.

Thanks for the help. It's just strange to me that if I connect power, ground, and speakers, I should have a working radio. It seems very complicated.

My C6 is a very base-model 2008. I have OnStar, and absolutely nothing else. No Bose, no XM, no steering wheel controls, no HUD.

** UPDATE **
I just bought the PAC RP5-GM11 interface.
I'll be putting more water in the soup until next year.

Amazon Amazon

Hence your going to need the Pac rp5-gm11 due to the on star module in the car. If down the road you want to install steering wheel controls to the steering wheel, the module is already set up for it.

Here is the install manual on it, and make sure that you have it set correctly, hence radio selector set to 3 for Kenwood radio.
https://content.abt.com/documents/58...ion_manual.pdf

As for location of the module, just use double side tape to mount it behind the SDM module below the radio on the back wall.

Also, double check to make sure it has the latest firmware before you install it, and you you just use at micro sd to usb cable that comes with most android or camera type units to update the firmware on it from your computer.

Even though you have the base sound system, your car is still equipped with a separate amp. So even if you have the head unit working and your speakers connected, you still have to send a signal to the amp so that it knows to turn on.

My PAC unit did not come with an "update" cable. There are no USB or Micro-USB ports on the PAC unit. It must be updated with a cable that is sold separately (noted in the instructions). So the firmware cannot be updated without purchasing an additional cable. How stupid.

Anyway, I connected it all last night and it all works perfectly, and I'm very pleased. I still need to connect the reverse camera. I found an excellent place for that.
I cut a hole in the console under the armrest to accomodate the USB input. Works great and a very convenient location.

Some pics...

I also went with the Pac RP5-GM11 and never even considered updating it. You can check their website to see what the update actually does and if it's needed. Otherwise if it works fine, I wouldn't worry about it. Also, I just checked the website and it states that "This process is intended to be performed by an authorized dealer only."

Nothing special about the cable or update, and just need a mini usb to usb cable.

If you have a sony camera, this is the same cable that is used to down load the photo's from your camera to computer.
