Still my favorite of the renderings I've seen.

IMO... the highlighted area needs to be addressed on the car (not speaking of the rendering, but the actual car). I don't see how this protrusion on the door will be acceptable. I seen a photo of a mule with the door open and it too have this protrusion on the door. seems like an afterthought and they said "hey, lets just make it part of the door!".

Out side of that... it's starting to really look good!

La Ferrari has a very similar feature at the top of the door.

How many La Ferrari's running around Vs how many C8s will there be? That protrusion keeps the door from opening as wide as some people may need it. I have problems with my C7 door when it is parked in the garage. To get in or out I have to place the door against the car parked next to it and then turn my body sideways to slink between the door and the car body. With that thing sticking out I would be down to a one car garage and the Corvette wouldn't be on the eligibility list as my wife's car has priority. I imagine insurance company's would also raise rates on a car that is easily damaged and difficult to repair properly. That thing might even be an OSHA violation in the factory unless they developed some sort of cover that protected workers that got near the thing.

BUT, the one big difference is those doors open up, not out. I think if they open out, that little protrusion is going to turn into a real PITA. Either with limiting opening in tight spaces, or being really easy to ding up and damage.

True -- but if the doorline is moved just a bit forward the problem is much less. The alpha vehicles we've seen definitely have this doorshape, but they really don't look quite so extreme as implied by FVS' render. You can bet the Vette team is getting this right...

It’s been noted in another C8 Thread that the ME’s doors open on a slight upswing (~ 4-6”?) to cure the common corvette problem with hitting a nearby curb. That would also go a long way solving that upper pertrusion from sticking out too far. This is strongly suggested by this picture noting the door angle looking off perpendicular

I see what you are saying.

I personally would have made the doors open upwards to solve all potential issues! But I suppose upwards comes with it's own set of issues as well.

That's certainly a concern. It will depend on really where the extent of the door sits in relation to the rest of the car.

Perhaps the extent of the door isn't sticking further out, rather the scoop is going into the body, making that piece appear to protrude out when it actually isn't a problem.

I think it would have been foolish of the design to to overlook this which is why I think that they carefully considered it.

The door is going inward, a straight line from the front fender would take you back to the outside edge of the scoop. So opening the door will not be any more of an issue then it would be on a slab sided car. I just don’t like the scoop, especially the top of it. Hoping that it is camouflaged.

This look fantastic in my opinion. If this is close to what the real C8 looks like I be placing my order the day the GM order bank opens.

Great looking car and if prices anywhere close to the mid 70k range GM won't be able to build them fast enough.

I agree the center of the door being drawn tight into the body gives the appearance of the top and lower door protruding further out than it does.

I can't believe they would build the car with that protrusion. If you accidentally hit something with it, like the side of your garage, you would probably end up picking it up on the ground.

^^^

A concern for sure until we know more...but the C8 is hardly alone in this feature. Some part of the door has to be sticking out the furthest. It does seem "thin" from our perspective but it may be reinforced. May be a seperate piece... we don't know. We can only hope...and I feel GM has done its homework and tested t, that it will not be damaged any more than any other part of the door. Maybe they will offer special "door edge" insurance ? ! ; ) It is, I am sure, as strong as the bottom corner edge of the c7 door. If that hits something, does it break off easily.? Note the thickness (black area) just under the outer lip. Maybe elastomer? I think it just looks way more delicate than we are used to. Don't open the door too close to anything on a windy day !
