Hi - I had a similar issue, but happened on a flat surface. Check out the links below. Not sure if you have the same issue, but this fix worked for me. Rather than tie back the part at issue, I simply clipped it off. The issue is apparently a low current issue for the electronic part that sends a message to the gear shifter to "unlock". I would encourage you to do more searches on this issue, there are quite a few of them. If you decide to tackle it, be careful for the orange indicator tab in the gear shifter, it can be easily broken, but not if you are careful. Again, search more, there are many videos out there as well. Good luck!

Above is correct. Very common C6 problem. Don't take it to the dealer or it will cost you $500.00.
Remove your console cover, cut off or tie back the plastic pawl and reinstall your console cover. 30 minutes and a free, permanent fix.

Right now I can't take the console cover off,I have been doing Chemo and both my hands are numb!! I have not been driving the vette much the last two years, the last time I drove it in August it was fine. When I get it fixed I plan to sell it,its only got 11,500 miles on it and just sits in the garage covered up!!

Default Out of Park

Push bottom of start button to put car in accessory mode and shift to neutral. Start in N and shift to drive or back to P when done. This is in the Manual for your car. GL.

Another thing to try...after the car is started take your foot off the brake, put a bit forward force on the shifter, hold it there then put your foot on the brake and see if it will unlock and come out of park.
