Hold out for a z07 or z51 with lt4?
I sold my 93 ruby 4 weeks ago exact. Because I have been a wanting a zf6 C4. I've been looking, and do see a few nice cars that aren't priced out of reality. Anyways, I'd really like a z07 with lt4, but obviously that doesn't exist. So with that said, is it wise to hold out with a car that has z07 or z51? Or just buy a base zf6 if the car is nice enough?
No, not interested in any other gen.

Don't get me wrong, I loved that car. But swapping a zf6 is not easy. I know others here have done it. While I can turn wrenches, those guys have more skill than me. Plus, wouldn't be cheap. But thanks. The new owner keeps in touch and is very happy with the car

Tough call. The z51 parts can be added if you want and have the skill. But it may be more cost effective to just buy a z51 car, especially if you cant fo tha swap diy.

It's certainly more expensive to make the car a z51 after the fact, but they are also pretty uncommon. Based on the production numbers an LT4 has about an 8.6% chance of being a z51. You are likely going to have to search far and wide or hope you get lucky. I was actually lucky and unintentionally ended up with a z51. The previous owner didn't say, or maybe even knew about it, and I didn't notice until I checked the RPO codes after I bought it. I would say the LT4 is more important aspect though.

Look at it like this maybe if you desire a C4....
What does z51 / z07 mean to you? Is it for driving or to have a car with cool rpo codes?
What does having an LT4 which is like 30-40 hp more than a stock LT1 mean to you?
In the end it is about the experience you desire, unless you are buying to have the options.
In that case . ZR1 "King of the hill". or B2K maybe.
It seems you are not overly driven by performance, so maybe a super clean example of a c4 that you can polish on and enjoy is what you are looking for?

I'm after driving enjoyment, which a C4 offers. I had a base suspension 93 then my ruby with z07. Loved the better turn in and cornering. Yes, it is quite noticeable. I was asking because I was just curious. I'll end up doing coil overs anyway later. It'll just be a fun street car. Mild cam, exhaust, coil overs, wheels, big brakes and sound system.

LT4 z51 in c4 fs now. 96 z51 has the bars but not the springs of the early years. With functional F45 would be ideal. I saw a white z51 f45 LT4 but my cheap *** didn't buy it. Dumb.

are you going to drive the car to the full benefit of the suspension option?

I think a few people here have danced around the real question. You want a pretty rare car, and any owner who knows that their car is that rare will likely want money that reflects that.
Are you willing to pay the several thousand dollars extra for the car you want? If one comes up for sale at 15k will you still want it bad enough? What about 20k? When you want a specific car, and it's rare, are you ready to pull the trigger regardless of the deal, or do you want it to fall into your lap below value? That's the real deciding factor here, does your desire for the option translate into thousands of dollars?

Honestly, I think you're losing your car here. That car at 13k ia a steal. If I was you I'd be begging that guy to take my 13k. You're not going to touch a nice zr1 for that money, and (this is gonna push the zr1 crowd off) it wont drove as well. The zr1 while it has more power and a uniquedrivetrain, it weighs more and feels more cruiser than sports coupe. The zr1 isnt necessarily an "upgrade" it's a different kind of car.

For sure.. I wish I were closer we could def go for a joy ride.
When you do get to drive one you will see/feel the difference, it goes beyond the extra 30 horses. People always say it's the same as LT1 w "an extra 30 horse".. but it's not. There's more to it.. first thing I noticed when going from LT1 to 4 was how much smoother the 4 is.. feels more refined.
