Default Longevity of Cup 2 in HPDE?

I am curious to see how many track days are folks getting from the Cup 2 tires? I made the mistake of replacing the initial MPSS with Conti Extreme and the fronts are down to 2/32 (front) after 5 HPDE days and 3000 miles of driving. Running in the intermediate run group at this point.

When I asked track rats what they do for such events scrubs were suggested. Pretty cheap and lots of life left.

3 days out of cup 2's for me and they delaminated. They are a waste of money. I got 5 days out of MPSS's and they were only 1 second slower at the track.

This is getting to be a very expensive sport with such limited tire choices for the GS/Z06.

I got 3 track days before the fronts became a slick with no tread left. That was 4 20 minute sessions for each day so didn't take me much time at all.

That doesn't indicate they were worn out. Turning into a slick is one of their advantages. The delamination issue is a concern because some tires will strip down to the cords in just one section of the tire with good rubber on each side of the strip. I had two rear Cup2 tires replaced under warranty because one of them delaminated and the dealer chose to replace both. That was after just 1.5 half days of track usage. Other people get several HPDEs out of the tires.

The lowest cost way to go is with scrubs (once you pay for the wheels required).

I plan on going to C6 Z06 wheels and some NT01s or R888R and decide which work for me. A lot of mixed reviews.

In hot Texas weather (COTA, MSRH) they will usually last 7-8 track days with four 20-min sessions per day. You don't need tread for track days, but cording and delaminating is a different story.
To save money in the long run I went with custom spec 18" forgestars currently on r888r's.

cup 2 zp will last 6-7 hpde if you keep PTM on, and obviously sport 1 will allow you to keep the cup 2's running the longest. race mode or turning off T/C then probably only 2-3 track days if that.

I've also found that if you heat cycle the tires a few times on the street it will help with tire life and delamination. I try to heat cycle the tires 3 or 4 times on the street before I use them on the track. I've had much better luck since I started doing this. I can't remember who it was that suggested that to me but it has worked well. That and a track alignment.

how did you heat cycle a sport cup 2 on the street? that takes quite a bit of heat.

I agree. It is almost impossible to get them up to their 190 degree operating temp just driving on the street. Street/highway speeds are far too low to get the tires up to that temp.

Maybe I should have put I ran them for 30 miles or so and let them cool back down several times. I didn't push the car hard at all just normal driving. It's an hour drive for me to Raleigh so I just made 3 or 4 trips with the cups. That said they haven't delaminated since I started doing that.

Yeah that's not heat cycling. Nowhere near.

Sorry about that. I wasn't trying to mislead anyone. It was suggested to me that I try this to help keep the tires from delaminating and it has worked. I had a problem with one strip of the tire peeling off with new tires but doing this with the last 2 sets it hasn't happened again. Not sure if this helped or I've just been lucky.

An instructor at Spring Mountain told me they run about 2 seconds slower on the Super Sports when compared to the Cup 2's

Tire life on track will depend entirely on how you drive. I usually get about 3 days out of a set. As others have said, true heat cycling really helps their longevity. By that, I mean run a session with them and then swap them out until at least the next day or ideally the next event.

Find a clover leaf ramp setup and just keeping doing the ramps. :-) The bad part is they are all right hand turns.

I only got about 2 track days (10 sessions) out of my Cup 2's before the fronts delaminated. The rears were still in pretty good shape.

Haha I actually have one of these nearby. Yeah that problem with cup2s is terrible. But you should be able to get any michellin tire warrantied by michellin.
