Default Removing Trans Filler Bolt

I'm trying to remove my trans filler bolt to check fluid level.[4 speed Muncie].
I know it's not welded on, but it feels like it is. Any tips on how to remove it with out stripping the bolt?

Some will tell you a big crescent wrench - I prefer an 8-pt socket that will allow a full grip on the square bolt....Sears' sells sets of 4 and a few other places...

Tap hard on the plug with a hammer to help loosen it. I use a brass hammer and hit it rather hard. Then take the 8 point socket, if you have one and try to tighten it first (yea, sounds dumb). If it still won't budge, heat the aluminum around it just enough to melt candle wax into the threads with a propane torch and try again. You don't have to heat it much to expand the aluminum. I use a good 16" crescent (just because I have one) first or of course an 8 point socket on an impact is better. If you mess up the plug, you are down to a good pipe wrench.

Thanks for the helpful answers.
So, I don't have an 8-point 9/16th socket, I went to AutoZone, Advance Auto, Lowes, Home Depot, and none of them carry 8-point sockets. Ebay to the rescue, and only a few on there had it.
Another near extinct part is the trans filler bolt, I tried 4 Corvette online vendors, none had one, finally found only one vender on Ebay that had it [his Ebay name is 'teammuncie'].

Better hurry, Frank. They are closing the doors on our Sears store in three weeks.

End of an era - you could order entire houses from Sears - nice ones; there are several still standing in Flagler County here in Florida. And, of course, to a pre-Internet, teenage boy - there was the lingerie section of the catalogue.

Are you off your meds? It wasn't funny the first time, nor 4 times later.

Is that what happened? You used the hammer on your head, but it didn't fall off yet.

Do you get a special secret bonus from IB for posting the same stupid answer to every question? Can it.

Have a Sears house down the street from me. I believe you had to be near a railroad for delivery

I worked for the company, Lusterlite, that designed and built the Sears Houses. They were steel framed with porcelain enamel on steel wall panels inside and out. They were built with the same design as the old Standard Oil and Marathon gas stations. They were all built on concrete slabs. Although they would last forever with no maintenance, they were not insulated well. I think they were originally built back during the WW2 era.

Back to the original issue:
You probably know this, but make sure you can get the FILLER plug out before you remove the drain plug.
