Default Info for new steering wheel

Hello guys,

i have a 2014 Stingray Z51 M7, with Kalahari interior.

I wanted to upgrade my steering wheel to a 2015+ Z06 Steering wheel, mainly because for the D shape, that mine hasn't.

The specs i would like are:

° Suede
° Kalahari Stitches
° Manual Version

Do you know if a Suede /Kalhari combo actually exist? or just standard leather?

Thanks

Alessio

You might reconsider your choice.
Obviously, either one will work.
I find the flat bottom on the steering wheel of our 2017 to be distracting, though I've gotten used to it. I actually considered switching to the old wheel, but decided it wasn't worth the hassle.
I've been told that the round steering wheel on your car has the center hub offset toward the bottom somewhat, so it produces a similar effect as the D wheel but just doesn't look like an Italian exotic. I've not looked closely enough to know if that's correct.

Default Wheel Man

Check out forum vendors for custom wheels. Two tone, contrast or matching stitching, carbon fiber details are pretty tasty. APSIS recently had a post with two of there products.

I recently swapped in this custom Carbon Elements CF wheel. I was hesitant in the past to switch to a D-shaped wheel.- our Audi has one and it took me a while to get used to as I didn't daily drive that vehicle. The one I just installed in my C7, though, I absolutely love. The extra thickness and the solid feel of it make it feel awesome in my 1-hour+ commute. The feel of it is absolutely luxurious and it feels significantly more solid than the stocker. I would not swap it back to stock for anything!

I wasn't sure when I got my Grand Sport if I would like the "D" wheel. I was very happy with the round wheel in my 14. Now after having the GS for several months, I really like the "D" wheel, much better then the round.

Did it take you 3 months to get it? I can't find anyone who actually has any.

Alessio, if you want to stay OEM, simply go to your local Chevy dealership. They can help the best.

I did the same. 2014 C7 to 2015 Z06 wheel, but w/o suede.
Sorry, but don't know if the suede is available in Kalahari.
Go to Z06 Forum and ask them there.... or just go down to your local Chevy dealer
and order one.. if available.

wow... Steven Bell beat me by 2 minutes as I was typing..

Took 2 weeks and that's because there was a holiday in the middle of it. This is from Carbon Element on FB. They take a wheel you send to them and modify it. They do not have extra wheels there to trade you for yours so you have to supply them with a stock wheel to start with. I sent them an extra I bought from eBay for $125 with the bezel and controls intact.

I too have a 2014 M7 and did this very swap myself.
I purchased a GM suede D shaped wheel but it was not available with the Kalahari stitching, so I got it with black stitching.
Also bought the suede shift **** and shift boot.
They all look and feel great, great upgrade.

I like the style, thickness, and heft of your steering. The only thing I would want different is alcantara on the sides, and red strip at 12 o'clock high.

Default I'm too cheap

6'2", chubby with long legs (not asking for a date here....) and my 2014 (keeper, last of 6 Vettes I've owned, recently retired school teacher) had the stock wheel. I found the D-shaped wheel gave me a little extra knee room. I replaced it with a stock D-shape for about 160 bucks (close to two years ago) from, I believe the company was called Gultrag or Cultrag (?) A great buy if you're not picky...don't know if you can follow a similar route but good luck in any case.

Carbon Fiber Elements does a great job! My stock wheel reshaped and carboned up with blue stiching. It took two weeks to ship, build and ship back.

This is not exactly answering your question, but...

I have a manual 2017 LBR with Kalahari interior, and I too wanted to upgrade the steering wheel.

I happened across some marketing posts by APSIS USA showing a number of wheel configurations that piqued my interest and I reached to see if they would build one in:
  • Mat carbon fiber,
  • Kalahari leather
  • red leather.
Mat CF to match the interior (I also bought their console and waterfall in CF). Kalahari leather to match the interior and red to match the LBR of the body. It came out very nice. Admittedly only C7 owners notice the new wheel, but it still gets comments, compliments and I am happy.

Here's a option, buy a suede wheel as cheap as you can find then find a upholstery supplier and buy the thread that matches the size of the OEM and re-stitch the wheel. It's a bothersome/exhausting task but will pay you great dividends in the end you'll have a truely custom OEM wheel.
I re-stitched my Camaro wheel from a 1LE from stone to orange since there was no orange suede D shaped wheels.
