Default How to replace front camera lenses?

Hi guys,
was following vehicles on 'dirty' road yesterday and my perfectly maintained car has been seriously damaged by all of those small impacts, to the point that the camera lens need to be replaced, image being totally blurred.

Paint, carbon parts, light screen and even windshield show similar impacts.

Any idea on how to remove and replace just the fron cameras lenses since the cams are still functional?

Thx

Holy Crap Batman!!! I believe the lenses are the least of your worries for the time being. Looks like a paint job for sure! As far as camera lenses I suggest checking with dealer to get a P/N (if can be bought separately) but with P/N in hand do some online searches for better deals. Dealers are ALMOST always more expensive. Good luck & I believe you have learned a quality life lesson about following others too closely. Good luck & come back with any new info. PS: I believe the headlight covers will be very expensive to replace & guessing the windshield is in bad shape also.

Lenses are built into the camera....but the cameras will be cheap compared to all the other stuff. I found this for you since you may need the grill as well...

Wait 'til you see the price on the new headlights.....

That's about $4 grand worth of damage there. Conservatively.

Thanks guys! Appreciated! That helps a lot. When time permits, I will remove the front fender and will paint the grill, polish the headlights to see how it goes. Cameras are still working but terribly blurred as you can imagine.

Windshield is another story... so I have to proceed step by step. So pissed since the car was in perfect conditions in the morning, but that's the way it goes!

Hopefully that kind of sand from the road did not make it into the engine. Will also get the air filter replaced.

Might also have been worse.

Just went out to look at my camera lens to see how large the actual lens opening is. You MIGHT be able to carefully polish/buff out the lens directly over the eye (very tiny) to get it to "see" satisfactorily. Wouldn't you know, when I checked mine it has a very small nick/crack on driver side & appears moisture might be getting inside it. Haven't noticed any blurring yet tho. Not anywhere like your problems, so definitely not griping! Good luck!

A little bit of feedback... since I was worried about dust/sand going into the engine, I removed my air filter this morning.

The airbox was showing some sand in it, but it looks like that the AFE Power filter did a good job since I did not find any trace of sand particle in the conduit going from the air filter to the SC! That is a good piece of news in this mess!

Thanks my friend!
Will give it a try but I also have a crack, for me on the passenger side, and moisture got inside. Those lenses are very exposed so I am surprized that they cannot be replaced without replacing the full camera. Even the GoPros can get just the lens replaced.

I am going to remove the bumper in the next few days and will see if there is a way to polish or replace those lenses.

I believe there are some pretty aftermarket good kits available for polishing out headlight covers, and it would not surprise me if they would work on the camera lenses. Unless the sandblasting is just too deep. But it might be worth exploring. Don't think it will help on the paint though. Have you asked a body shop about whether the paint damage might buff out? Or is it just too deep? Good luck with it --Bob

Might you consider an insurance claim? I don't believe it would be a collision claim but it should be covered under comprehensive which shouldn't jack your premiums.

This reminded me of a similar claim made years ago when I got caught on about 10 miles of State Hwy being re-coated with gravel- then oil/asphalt. My car was similarly damaged & State Farm covered it for a repaint. The gravel from on-coming traffic could not be avoided & they didn't slow down, throwing gravel on frt/hood areas (I stayed well back of folks ahead but didn't matter). Not sure if they actually checked to see if work was being done where I said it happened. Just a thought as 383vett said.

At the very least, you have a re-spray on both fenders, the hood, and the bumper cover. New grill and cameras, re-spray on the inlet ducts (carbon flash painted), and I'm guessing those headlights won't buff out with the pitting as deep as it looks. Those things run $1,200 each. That sounds like a comp claim for sure.

Found what appears to be this part (camera) using P/N 23324700 online at gmpartsheadquarters.com & gmpartsgiant.com. Both in the $110/$120 price range.

Thank you very much! Also found GM 23506691 as part number.

I did remove the broken piece of glass protecting the plastic lens behind it. Camera works perfectly. I just need to find a 12mm piece of glass/plastic to protect and seal the front. (already got one from an old torch light, so just need to find another one)

... other option will be to order those $5 cams found on Amazon and either try them since exact same size (but will need to adapt cabling) or just reuse their front lens!

I wanted to avoid going through insurance since car might be stuck there for weeks/Months waiting for expert / parts / paint job, and I have been everything but impressed by job done on other cars... but the windshield makes me think that I might have no other choice:
