Drifting
A guy locally did it to his 86 about 20 years ago. I thought it looked pretty good but the belt line molding looked a bit off with that pain scheme especially at the white sections. Unfortunately he never came back as the local community gave him such a hard time for imitating a grand sport :-(

You can't please everybody, but I think the striping concept can be made to work if adapted to the early body dimensions. Its just a stripe after all. Here's an old photo.
I'm not crazy about how the stripe was done on the painted roof panel, but this was done after the fact by a different painter. Car had a glass roof when it was first painted, so the stripe width over the halo didn't get a lot of attention.
The 2nd painter kinda winged it when laying out the stripe to blend between the hood rear edge and the halo. A bit of a wider stripe over the roof looks better. In the rear, the gas door makes a good guide for dimensions. I maintained the width and ran the stripe outside the licence plate opening. The 1/4" pin stripes are painted on, unlike the 96 tape stripe.
If doing it again, I would probably go a bit wider but with more taper over the hood and still fit the nose. Terminating the hood stripe at the belt line would be the simplest option.
A reproduction pin stripe kit with template or a decal kit may be helpful for laying out the stripe but will add some cost to the project:

Don't get me started on hash marks. You can see the original tape hash marks on the noses of the 3 Mecom cars in some of these pics from 1963 Nassau Speed Week (many pages of great photos if you open the link) enjoy:

The number 50 w-white hash (#004?) and 65 w-black hash (#003) cars are featured quite prominently in many photos. The number 80 car w-red hash (#005?) is harder to find. Chassis number and racing number data is inconsistent from different sources so #004 and #005 may be reversed.

The GS is just a dress up but it means more than the LT5 at this point. Goes to show why most people buy sports cars.
GS theme is the best IMO and with red is better. That zr-1 with the GS theme is to me the coolest c4 ever still.
