Default Error code c0450

Steering assist control actuator circuit C0450 code on a 2008?
Steering is alittle harder and service engine soon displays on start up.
Any ideas

Check out this thread. The OP had the same issue.

Sure did, steering rack shot, $2,300 @ a dealer installed.

OP if it does need a new rack consider an independent shop for this,
Saves enough $ to seriously soften the blow, close to half I'd bet.
Providing, there's access to a competent shop, preferably familiar w/ C6.

Rare a rack goes south so if $'s tight, acquiring one from a C6 salvager makes $ sense.

I guess I need to get a meter and shoot some wires.

Code is for the circut alone, so keep that in mind. Hence ECBM is seeing the ohm reading to the steering rack and back as not having enough resistance.

So start by removing the connector on the steering rack, and check the racks two pins for the connector with a ohm reader to get a reading back. no ohms, and the rack is toast.

If you get an ohm reading out of the rack, then clean and reconnect the connector, disconnect the ECBM connectors and test the two wire pins on it for the wires back to the steering rack connector, to make sure you don't have a break in the wiring from the Steering rack connector, to the EBCM connector. If you don't get back close to the same ohm reading as the rack itself, then a problem in the wiring connectors.

If you get back the same reading as the rack on the EBCM connectors, the clean the EBCM socket pins, the EBCM connector pins, and plug the EBCM back in to see if that solved the problem. If it did not, then bank a problem in the EBCM, and may just be time to pull is apart to resolder the header pin connectors in the EBCM controller box.

Trust me, on a 2008 car, and the very thin gauge wire that GM used on the cars, not out of the question for the only problem to be just a break in the wire under the shielding on the white or brown wire, or one of the connector wire pins to wire broken isntead. Hell, a lot of time, it's just corrosion on one of the connector socket female spade piece to module pin itself the problem at had for the problem in the circuit code alone (which cleaning the connectors resolves)..

This code just came up in my car. The car does not drive abnormally nor does the steering feel stiff. I took apart the connectors and visually inspected them but have not test them for continuity. As this is an infrequent problem with the members of this forum, I will report back any findings for those who may have issues in the future. No steering rack replacement is going to happen at this point based on the symptoms. If there was not a "service vehicle soon" message, I would not know there is a problem at all. Hopefully it is a connector or wire problem that is easily repairable.

Car: 2007 C6 base 70k miles. LS2 no mods.
