Clunk when going into 1st when stopping 7004r
I have had this car less than three weeks and trying to familiarize myself with it. The FSM I ordered hasn't arrived yet.at least 50% of the time when I roll up to a stop there is a clunk when trans shifts back into first. The trans shifts beautifully under power, not too hard, no slipping albeit shifts a bit earlier than it should under light throttle, IMHO.
. I also hear a strange noise when shifting out of reverse when backing out of my drive. Not a clunk, but almost a "scrubbing" or very brief rubbing sound.Doesn't really sound mechanical. Possible that the trans is not totally snug?
Trans has good looking fluid @ proper level.
TV cable properly adjusted.
Idle speed seems a little higher than the 650 rpm reference I have read about. I am wondering if that is a contributor.
I plan to pull governor and make sure it is perfect as the shift points under light/moderate throttle are approx. 12, 25, 35., but autos
I have been driving four speed hotrods for decades so this is strange to me.I know my way around SBC motors ,but autos are not my expertise.Because the service history is sketchy I plan to drop the trans pan and service some time this winter. I have not mashed this thing through the gears yet because I am unsure of these noises. Car drives like a new one and has obviously been pampered.
Any insight or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

There can also be a slight clunk/tick sound that comes from inside the transmission (auto).
this was a bigger issue on the earlier C4s...
if it is inside the transmission, then it's a non issue.
just some slap from the low reverse clutch from the transmission case.
i hear it in mine as a clink or a tick/tink sound...
