1955 VIN tag
Ok, so some wishful thinking on my part, but I think I know the answer. Does this VIN tag look legit? The car does have a v8, but I haven't seen it in person to check numbers, etc. Title is in error Trim=VIN

I don't know squat about '55 VIN tags, but that looks odd.
(Edit after seeing the below replies): Shows how little I know. I would have thought that was home-made, but maybe with only 700 examples, that's the way it was.

I kind of like it. The V is typical back then (don't recall why, but it was a big issue with owners getting titles), the font configurations look good and if someone set out to create a reproduction tag to look original they did one hell of a good job. I don't like the screws used though. Should be pan head Philips.

Thanks guys. I have to say I thought the response would have been something along the lines of "bubba got a hold of that Vin tag" or "the V was obviously stamped by someone who put a V-8 in the car".
You learn something everyday.
Is there a registry of any king documenting how many '55s are still alive?

I checked the C1 registry and this car is not listed. There are 98 listed on there currently. This doesn't mean that there are only 98 left, but the number of 55's registered is very low compared to the rest of the C1 model years.

OK, a related question...
When was the "V" added to the vin tag for 1955 V-8 cars?
Where was the "V" added to the vin tag (factory, dealer, individual owners?)
What tool(s) was used to add the "V" to the vin tag?
