Need help!! ASAP!! Uhaul
Good evening all, I am in need of alittle help. I am currently stationed with the Army in N.C. I have a 72 and I found a place back home that can do the exact work I’m looking for at a better price. Well I can’t find a flat trailer to pull it. If I use a Uhaul pull behind with the rear wheels on the ground do you think it would damage the car or cause problems?

Uhaul also has full "auto transport trailers" for not much more. I have used them a few times to haul C3's behind my Chev 1/2 ton with a standard 2" ball and factory hitch. No problems. I would never tow a RWD car with an auto trans and the back wheels on the ground unless the driveshaft was disconnected.

I rented a 4 wheel trailer from U Haul to move a 68 from Florida to New Jersey. I rented it one way only and it was $500.00 for three days or $300.00 for five days. I don't remember which

In May I brought my '72 home; Mooresville NC to Nazareth PA. I got a one way U-Haul car carrier trailer and the cost with insurance and tax for a 5 day rental was 295.

Never pull a car with the power wheels on the ground. In the old days they pulled them backwards with the steering wheel locked (with a rope tied around the steering wheel and sandwiched in the door. Now they put the back wheels up on dollies.

Another vote for a full trailer. Make sure to get one that allows you to open the driver's door while it's on the trailer.....most UHaul trailers have the swing-away wheel fenders for this. Make sure the one they rent you WORKS!

When I moved from Wash DC to Florida, my '72 rode on the trailer, behind the moving van/roll up......ONE of the rentals was a yawl haul, the other was another company, so I picked up the trailer with my van, and of course the truck without the trailer present....saved about 500 bux.....by mixing rental companies....
Tied down the vette like the pix above, front and rear, it was a stickshift car then, can't remember if in gear or not, I did set the joke of a parking brake for no good reason.....
so no sweat......

Where to from North Carolina does it need towing, never can tell, there are some great members here, especially for military. Just so you know the reason not to tow an automatic car with rear wheels down is you will burn up your transmission. Has to do with it rotating inside with out any fluid being pumped to lubricate/cool. Mark
