Default C8 Question

I haven't been here in quite a while or keeping up with much of anything Corvette-related lately. Will the C8 DEFINITELY be a mid-engine car?

Yes, but that's about the only thing that can be said for certain about it.

Sounds like it. All the spy photos suggest this as well. Sounds like the motor will be a 4.2 turbo V8 as well. I didn't believe it at first but they already announced it in the CT6-V Cadillac. Knowing GM there is no chance that motor is only in a low volume Cadillac.

Johan De Nysschen already has confirmed the 4.2TT V8 LTA engine will not be used in the Corvette.

I believe the C8 will eventually will get a 5.5L V8 that falls within the same engine family as the LTA, but without the hot V turbo configuration. We'll likely see it in both naturally aspirated and twin turbo variants, with the NA going in the ZO6 and the twin turbo going in the ZR-1.

Rumors suggest the first year C8 wil probably get an updated LT1 OHV V8 with a little over 500 hp.

Johan is gone, along with his “exclusively Cadillac” engine. It’s going in the Vette.

The 4.2L V8 TT Cadillac engine is a hot-V design which is good when you need the space in a FE architecture. A lot of people have noted that there's no reason (and reasons not to) use a hot-V design in a ME layout. I have no idea what engine is going to go in the ME C8 but I don't think the Cadillac engine is it.

Exactly. The C8 CAD images show a twin turbo V8 with side-mounted turbos, so it's unlikely a hot V DOHC V8 would fit.

The LTA doesn't even have a torque curve that's proper for the Corvette, and it's an under-square design. Jeuchter is on record as preferring extremely oversquare, high revving engines, which could be achieved by keeping a similar stroke to the LTA while boring out to 5.5L.

I doubt it, northstar is still pretty fresh in GMs mind, as a just in case they may not want that to be a problem in the vette. It's just too new imo, however I could be wrong but it just seems too expensive for a base car. We shall see either way. The ring car reminded me a lot of the LT-5 in the C4 zr-1. Winding it out would be a dead giveaway (why they didn't more than likely...) if it were turboed or not but to me it sounded N/A and quite possibly dohc.

I remember reading some GM exec said that Cadillac would have no exclusive engines. So, if this engine is being built it will be shared. And who better to share it with than Corvette?
Also it is a better fit for a flat plane crank than a 5+ L engine.
The CAD drawing released might show the 5.5L twin turbo.

Yes, the C8 is a mid-engine car.
I have only read that Cadillac is developing new, brand-exclusive engines and that the LTA is its first exclusive engine. The C8 powertrains should be something close to this...:

Fair enough, but it could share architecture. Does gm use the turbo 3.6 in anything other than the luxury cars? They probably would have to tweak it a little, it doesn't seem to rev out like the current LT engines do. Peaking around 5500... it's going to be interesting. Again though, down the line, more than likely a variant will be in there for sure.

Every 3.6TT has been a one-off engine based on the High Feature V6. Could be that Cadillac are experimenting to learn what works and will eventually develop a dedicated twin turbo V6 engine similar to the LTA 4.2TT V8. Personally I'd rather they use a refined inline 6 since the corporate V6 has too high NVH to compete with the Germans or Japanese. Maybe someday Cadillac will pull their head out of their ****?

I can say with 100% certainty that there will never be a C8 powered by a V6 from the factory.

That and it will be sold in black, red, white and at least one shade of gray, and all will be available with a black interior.

So you think GM will build a ME car, put an OHV engine in it, and at a later date, put a DOHC engine in it?

Or the OHV is the base engine... DOHC NA for the Z06 and the turbo for a ZR1. Remember they still have to meet a price point. That DOHC engine is probably fairly expensive for a base car.
