If they do all the right things on the C8 and it is priced at $170 it's about right...and I'd be shopping one. My fear is "all the right things" is too big a leap for GM. If they half-a$$ it, it'll be an expensive half-a$$ed car.
There is absolute no way it will be priced it that high, a hybrid, awd, ultra high performance model, maybe.... I'll bet the base c8 won't be much more than the base c7. It doesnt cost more to produce a mid-engine car. Pricing it out of the reach of the typical Corvette owner would make no sense.
Part of the reason 911 holds its value is they make large price increases between models. Each generation gets successively more expensive, and so the prices for the used models do tend to stay more stable in price.
I dont buy into any of the c8 crap. I suspect the car that is midengine ia a 170k caddy, and theres always more and more data supporting that. I think the ACTUAL c8 will be a front engine rwd car.

No, it would not raise the value. Our cars are not rare, and there are plenty of sellers who will take current prices. However, our values may not fall as quickly, or will hold better over time.

I, for one, am in the market, or at least very interested, in the mid engine Corvette. I also believe there could be a front engine AND a ME “ZR1” top tier. If it sucks, there are half a dozen other cars I can shop in the $140-180K range. Most notably the upcoming 630hp LC-F and F-Type. I fell in love with the LC500 and the F-Type V8 after test drives, so there is definitely some competition.

Possibly. I think there could easily be 2 models. However , there are a thousand spy photos showing a mid engine Corvette is definitely happening.
This is what GM does... there will be a Base Model about 60k and one upgrade model about 80k in 2020. Next year of production there will be another upgraded upgrade model 100k...3rd year of production there will be a 120K+ model no holds barred. I would like to buy one the second or third year if production, skipping the C7’s altogether...I am watching this unfold closely.
My purchased new c6 z51 manual is awesome and ive put @lmost 128k miles so far....its mint, runs great but with this much time and mileage its not worth much and i dont care.
the c7 was a great sports car but evolutionary in nature so i held off...the c8 z51 rear mid engine will cost all of five grand more and be revolutionary in nature that will get my dime..
ill be sad to sell my c6 as its really been such a great ownership experience,

Me too. Spending $170 on the right car is not a problem for me with some very good choices in that range. Corvette could be one of those if done right. But I also agree with comments - GM is in the business to mass produce cars and creating value by limiting production is antithetical to that philosophy. However, just pricing a model in that range today forces a limited production.
Also agree, there are more likely a few different entries with the Corvette badge that will satisfy a broader range of buyers just like they do now with base models to ZR1 models, and a base and a ZR1 are pretty different cars. Corvette has traditionally competed well with cars in higher price ranges, but the last two generations, they've not kept up well. So, a C8, done well, is on my list. But a C8 with another 100 year old pushrod single cam engine technology, 2RWD drivetrain, front engine, etc. on a high HP 3000lb platform is not in the $170K and higher range of cars, but just pushes C6/C7 technologies forward.
Corvette could be on the cusp of competing with some of the worlds really fast cars, or staying back yet another generation relegated to more street fighting with other similar American cars like Mustangs, Demons, and Hellcats.
If they produce a few different versions (as I have read) then I expect that the low end to be in the neighborhood of $100K-$110K, with the duel turbo version at $150-$170K.

If a ME C8 is $170K, then there has to be a FE C8 at regular $50K price.

yes all Vette depreciation could slow in regard to the price of entry. OP asks

I don’t think it’ll happen. However I don’t believe it’ll raise the value of the C7. I also believe it’ll push many in to other cars. I will buy a Porsche in that price range myself. My Z06 is best bang for the buck for now though.
