Default Anyone make there own catch can?

I've had this filter drier in my garage for years, I think I will make my own oil catch can, drop a 3" tube with two hole drilled plates just above the tube opening sandwiched in corse SS Steel wool material.

I made one out of a oil/water separator for compressed air. It worked fine but looked a little cheesy

Update... I think this setup will work very well, scrounged some parts at work that I think will pull a lot of oil out. Going to pack the separation can ( 2" X 1.5" ) with SS corse steel wool. Then use the copper fitting around the separation can to force air down farther before it goes up and back to motor. Going to try to locate it on the inner fender twords the front so it has time to cool and separate.

I don’t know, the oil water separators don’t belong under a hood either

Well you may be right....but they look like they belong a lot more than PVC does. Unless of course one lives in Bogusville USA......

I think you will find that you are posting to the wrong audience here. Most Corvette owners would rather buy their catch can, sometimes spending hundreds of dollars. It is a stupid simple device, just needing to slow down the air going through it enough for the oil to separate out. The volume of the can is pretty dang important for this, but packaging under the Corvette hood can be a challenge. I have thought about making my own out of aluminum but the raw stock I would need would cost about $50. A whole lot of my time would be needed as well. Starts to lose its appeal when you can get them so cheap online. Sure, they won't be as good as the MightyMouse and Elite Engineering cans, but they usually will work ok and do what they are supposed to do.

I agree with you, if I didn't already have this separator I probably would go with a aftermarket one myself. But I know this one will work better than most others. I guess I'm use to modifying and making things work from a lack of aftermarket support being into Mopars for the last 35 years!

We got where we are now because I did not like the aftermarket options. 5 generations and thousands of satisfied customers later I really like one brand!

most compressor filters like this are designed for high pressure low flow where the ventilation system on the car is the opposite.

that being said just about anything will do a better job than nothing at all, but getting from there to 95+% is a long ways.

Running the "Wild PCV" from MMS for my S/C application. Great quality and design that works, nicely done David.

I strongly believe in "You get what you pay for"

I decided to not use the one above, and went with another

model with slight mod to add more area to the inlet chamber, should work nice and be easier to service.
