Default Oil leak on 97 C5

Hi, this is my 3rd C5 that i have owned and the first that has an oil leak, It is intermittent. there will be 3 oil spots towards the back of the engine about the size of a quarter each. sometimes on a long trip nothing other times there will be the 3 spots again, even shorts trips same very intermittent. you can smell oil burning sometimes but not all. any clues on how i can check to see if its an oil pressure sending unit or main seal? also the dipstick has never gone into the low zone obviously losing oil but not a lot. Oil pressure is normal as well.

Thanks for any help,
Brian
