Default 72 vette, wider wheels

Have a 1972 that I want to put wider wheels on. Not sure what size wheel is on there now but the tire is a 255/60r15. I intend on keeping this tire, I like the width. New wheel is a 15x8.5 the backspace on the new rims is at 5. What kind of work would I need to do, will a simple spacer in the rear do the job, if so how large of a spacer?

Any help is better than none,
Thanks

With 5 inch backspace I believe at a minimum you would need to move the parking brake bracket to the top of the trailing arm and shorten the rear spring. Not sure how big of a spacer you would need to accommodate the previous problems but the stock 8 inch rally wheels had 4 inch backspace I believe.

If you want to keep the same 'look' just measure the bs on your current wheel and subtract that from the 5" bs on your new wheels. The difference will be the thickness of the wheel spacer you will require.
