Enthusiast for a long time, New to Corvette
Hi, My name is Mark and I have owned a Corvette for 35 days. (group responds "Hi Mark")
I have owned a variety of cars from Porsche, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and even a Mercedes Benz. There was a Ford once, but those were dark years I wish to forget.
I started owning Cutlass and Toronado's - then GM shut Olds down. I then went to Firebirds - then GM shut Pontiac down. I guess I am just bad luck.
I currently own a '91 GTA, '89 Formula and a '89 Base model Firebirds - along with my daily drivers. (yes, I am not married) I had a bad experience with a '71 Chevrolet Camaro once - never bought a Chevrolet again - until 35 days ago. I know, all my third gen birds have Chevy engines in them 2 - 5.7 TPI and 1 - 5.0TBI.
I do my own work for the most part. for a living I build Firetrucks from scratch. Myself and a group of other talented people custom build firetrucks for anywhere in the U.S. and other countries as well. I am an automotive upholsterer by trade/profession. Do I do upholstery on the side? NO, I usually stand on my feet.
I was ASE certified in Brakes and Suspensions at one time, but they have expired. I am also spent 20 years serving in the U.S. Navy, now retired from that.
I have 3 birds in different stages of restoration and now I own a Corvette. I do not have much time for much else. I will help anyone I can with advice over upholstery though.
I live in Southern Louisiana. Somewhere between New Orleans and Baton rouge.
So , I now own a 1987 Corvette Convertible - Dark Red Metallic with the saddle top and interior. It is not perfect, but it is not a basket case either (I Hope)
I have a hardtop (Black for now) for it that has some missing parts - but I will find them in time. I had a slight starting issue with it, but it hasn't not started since then.
I really like the looks of this car. The newer ones are nicer, but this one I like. I look forward to the day of just driving/cleaning this car. I understand it may take years.
I have a lot to learn about these vehicles

It was my pleasure to serve in the military.
And yes, the life guards here are very knowledgeable
I am enjoying my new friend. I am spending some quality time with "her".
I will be Posting a picture - once i figure out how on my own computer. I can describe it though......
I have been finding "sins of the past" from the previous owner(s). It is on jack stands with half of the rear suspension removed.
Bushings and Brakes - oh my! Parts will be ordered later today. Just a speed bump.
And I was wondering what to do with all this extra free time I did not have?????
Corvette has been the top of the line performance car GM has/had to offer.
regardless of the year, it had the best that year had to offer. They have never been inexpensive.
So - why do people, who get told of repairs needed, ignore this and keep on driving - for years!
It confuses me!!
