I saw this in the news horribly tragic, a reminder that equipment failures can strike at any time. Best wishes to the family though I doubt anything could help ease their loss.

Give me a break "doesn't belong in C6 General" ! She was only 24 years old and passed due to an accident! She had so much life ahead of her. Not someone who was 75 years old who passed from an illness.
RIP Kat. Condolences to all her family and friends.

This was the only detailed information that seems to be creditable, time will tell what happened and if this is true. This is the second jet car racer to die this year, reportedly the first driver had a medical event (probably a heart attach) that took his life.

As reported on an internet racing site, the chutes did come out because she died as a result of hitting the temporary timing equipment at end of the 1/8 mile strip. From what was reported, a piece of equipment came back and hit her in the head (helmet) she died instantly. The car rode the guard rail out to the end of the strip.

You missed my point. I am saying this is "Shocking News" that should be in general discussion. When a healthy, 24 year old women passes from a tragic accident it becomes "Shocking News" "unexpected ". When an elderly person is suffering from an illness with poor prognosis death is "imminent". Death is death, the difference is how it arrives!.

I've never understood why open wheel cars (Indy, dragsters, F1 type) don't have some sort of protection in front of the driver's head. There have been several deaths over the years due to flying debris, or cars going 'top first' into the fence. F1 has recently adopted a halo that looks like it could be a lifesaver. If it was debris that caused this tragic death, I can't help but wonder if an F1 type halo would have saved her. So very sad.
