bright headlights blown fuse?
Anyone had issues with blowing the 10A fuse after installing Sylvania Xtravision Halogens? Just went for a ride and all my lights were working fine...hit the brights and blew the fuse? Swapped the fuse out and now they seem to be working fine but I am concerned this could happen again. I replaced the dash harness and the engine harness during the restoration so I don't think its a wiring issue. Anyone seen something similar?

Not sure what is happening here. Headlight overloads are usually handled by th thermal breaker in the headlight dash switch.
Most halogens don’t draw much more current than the original headlight bulbs.

Didn't know a 66 had a fuse for the headlights. Looked at mine and couldn't find one, but don't have a 427 just a mouse.

There is no fuse in the headlight circuit. Look again which fuse blew and report back, maybe it can be figured out.

Here's my theory. You stepped on the bright switch, the lights went out due to a bad dimmer switch (pretty common), then you changed a fuse (maybe the tail light fuse) and when you turned them back on they worked. You can buy a dimmer switch at most any local auto parts store for under 20 bucks and replace it from the cabin floor with removing two screws and a connector plug if that turns out to be the problem. If it happens again, try first looking at the dash lights. If the dash lights go out also, they feed through the tail light fuse. If they stay on, it's probably the dimmer switch. And more importantly, switch back to dim and see if they come back on.

It was the taillight fuse. I lost all the lights including dash lights. I failed to mention I installed a detroit speed headlight kit as well. The dimmer switch might be a possibility but not sure why that would take out the taillight fuse

The current for the headlights doesn't go through that fuse so I'm not sure what's happening either. Possible wiring issue with the Detroit Speed connection. Did you choose to change the wire from the headlight switch to make the parking lights come on with the headlights? Optional. Did you connect the correct signal wire from the headlight switch to the Detroit Speed trigger wire? If you didn't, the head lights would probably roll over in the park position also, so probably not anything like that. The tail light fuse should definitely not kill your headlights.

Sounds like a bad headlight switch to me.

Possible. I didn't wire the parking lights to stay on. I did change the headlight switch when I installed the kit. The headlights have been working fine (although I haven't driven it much at night). First time I have tried the new halogens at night....maybe check my connections on the switch plug that I had to move for the detroit speed kit to make sure they are sound.
