CAN I GET TO 700hp???
trying to hit the 700 mark, what do you think.
BBC 496 build
-4 bolt mains with ARP studs
-scat forged crank
-scat forged h beam rods with ARP upgrade
-wiseco forged +20cc dome pistons
-solid roller Straub cam
248 253 @.050
.640 lift
108 LSA
-AFR 290 full CNC heads with 113cc CC.
-RPM Airgap intake
-ProSystems little monster 1050
-11:1 compression
ive seen some builds from mark that hit over 700 But I know there’s a lot of experience and talent going into his builds.

do you have enough clearance to install a blower? with the engine specs im assuming you have removed the cat and are running open pipes, carb and heads you have should be able to accommodate a fair amount of boosted airflow, not familiar with all the parts listed but seems like a blower would put you very near the 700 goal

My compression is 11:1 so no forced induction and this is a 1970 c3 so no cats. I think with this build if I did have a blower it would put me closer to 1000 hp. Also I barely have clearance for my carb with an l88 hood let alone a blower.

fair enough, missed that, even a 2 psi boost would put you over 12 to 1 easily, short of lowering base compression I cant think of any other way to safely induce more flow without converting to efi

Yes,,, not a problem.
And if done right maybe even 740,,, you have good heads and good compression and big cam and big CC....
intake, exhaust, are just as important... and when i say done right, its the little things that add up, like good windage trays...you have the wrong intake.. Carb is to small. need 2" headers.. 3" mandrel bend X-pipe .. reduced speed pulley system
I would not do solid roller,, a good hydraulic roller will lose only a few hp up past 6500 rpm, and you can forget about it after adjusted.. use some beehive springs, ..

I don’t think you will be quite there. I have my 502 fresh off the Dyno with 10 to 1 compression, AFR 315 CNC heads, fully ported Holley Strip Dominator single plane, Holley 1000hp carb and a solid roller of 263 intake and 269 exhaust at .050 with .700 lift. It made 653hp at 6500 rpm. Now every dyno is different and my builder says his dyno is no “magazine” dyno but I would think yours would be similar to mine. I don’t agree with the don’t use a solid roller thought. I got mine through Jones cams, spec’d for my combo, as Straub does. Gentle ramps and great street life he says. Some of these big hydraulic rollers use spring rates similar to what my solid requires. I am using good Morel bushed lifters.
Good luck with the build, will be anxious to see what it makes. Straub will certainly nail it with the cam choice, though I think you could definitely go bigger. Put some good lifters in it. I got my Morels from Straub. By the way, my intake fits perfectly with an L88 hood and might make a few more horsepower than the Air Gap.

My opinion is yes, it will be close. Airflow is key so make sure your intake manifold is opened up to your heads and cleaned up nicely. I have a steet 523 bbc with 10.5 compression, afr 335 heads, victor intake with 1150 carb, solid roller with 262/265 @ .050 and 700 lift. That combination made 750 hp on the dyno at 6500 rpm. I can attach the dyno sheet if anyone cares.
I also built a 468 with 13 to 1, dart pro 1 heads 325 cc, solid roller with 700 lift and vcor intake with the same 1150 and that one made 702 hp at 6600 rpm.

Seems like my cam is a bit small maybe. I know vortecpro uses dual plane with about the same cam on pump gas and makes 700 so I wonder what the big change is there as a big variable.

i agree but thats the cam he specd to keep it all semi streetable, i told him I wanted vacuum for my brakes to at least work. I’m sure if I wouldn’t have it would be a lot more duration with a lot more lift. I love the look of the single plane but would like to keep everything at the lower rpm range if possible. And yes I’m solid roller all the way👍

If you go to a cfm to hp online calculator your 360 cfm heads will have the potential to produce 683 hp if you can spin the motor 7000 rpm's. Because peak hp must come in at 6500 plus rpm
so from the above posts. Your cam is very wimpy, low lift and duration. Your manifold choice is not made for higher rpm and is another limiting factor.
Paul, I have to correct you on beehive springs. They are only made for light weight sbc valves and train. Not bbc 2.225. Big bbc valves and pushrods.

For the record my solid roller 427 ci sbc has a lot more duration and lift than your 496 and I consider it streetable . I take long weekend trips of over 1000 miles
you have a long lasting mild roller and setup. Why worry about peak hp and enjoy the Tq monster

I think you need a touch more cam.....but it should hit 700 no problem.
