Default Onyx cover

For those using one: what do you do about the antenna? I put a tennis ball on the end and stretched the cover over it. I am reluctant to make a hole fearing that it may start unraveling. Anyone poked a hole?? If so, how did it work?

Great cover otherwise.

Regards,
Jerry

Dad has one for his 67. We just remove the antenna before putting the cover on

My understanding is that removing the antenna is a pretty big job. Am I wrong? Can the mast be removed w/o disturbing the power mechanism? A quick search of the forum didn't turn up anything.

Jerry

I don't know what year car you have. On a 67, it's easy because the antenna is fixed-mast and unscrews from the base very close to the deck line. For earlier cars where the mast retracts but cannot be easily removed, most of the cover vendors supply the cover with a plastic clip on grommet. The idea is, you cut the hole where you want it, and then clamp the round grommet in place so the antenna has a place to go. I think I might have an extra one of those if you need it, PM me and I can look.

On a 67 the mast just unscrews. Now on a 65-66 I can’t remove it. The car cover did come with a grommet just for this problem

That’s one thing I like about my VettesUnderCover covers. Both were ordered with antennae hole installed and nicely stitched so no more messing with chopping a hole in your new cover.

Replied. I will look some more, but McMaster has those fabric grommets as well. They aren't anything too special.

I have an Onyx cover on my '66 it is about 3 years old. I just poked a hole thru the cover with an ice pic it has not run or unraveled at all but I like the grommet idea.

Paragon Corvette sells covers with an antenna glove built in. Fits right over the antenna. No need to remove the antenna.

After locating and opening the hole put either Gorilla tape or duct tape on each side of the cover, then reopen the hole.
