Default Borg Warner vs Muncie

I am looking for input on if I should run a Borg Warner T10 or a Muncie M20. It is going into a 1969 350. I bought the 69 and the transmission was not installed. The M20 is dated in 1968. Recently I bought a 1975 for the frame to donate to a 1974 I am rebuilding with my son. The 1975 has a T10 in it and was told it ran well before the accident. My dilemma is which one will perform better, I have only driven Muncies. The 69 build is not a numbers matching car and has several performance enhancements on it. Has anyone driven both and what do you think would be useful on the decision making process?

Thanks,
Jim

I have an OEM BW Super T-10 in my 78 L-82 and as 4 speed manually tranny's go, as long as you do not have a high gross HP engine (above 400 Gross HP), the Super T-10 is about as good as it gets ..........

You might want to read this:

The Muncie and Borg Warner Transmissions are VERY similar in design and application.

Take this for what its worth,
I was/am in your boat in my case im building a 69 road race theme car and 4 speed was a must, no, not 5 or 6 old school 4,
I naturally wanted a rock crusher just because,
And my car will just be a cruiser poser no track time,
I jumped on a st10 a member had, boasted ready to go that he was a trans man and it was good,

Well it wasnt, it was a rusty, nasty core needing rebuilding,
I got cheated, the thread is in the disput section.

Really made me sick to loose $$$,
So the world is bigger than this forum, who would have guessed it,
I was thinking about having it rebuilt and 100% of rebuilders like t10 over any muncie for all kinds of reasons,
I ended up disgusted with being cheated sold it as a core to the owner of a hot rod shop, he was happy with it, said of course it needed rebuild, not ready to go but he doesnt touch muncies only t10s, in his opinion better, a little stronger etc,
So where am i now?
I do believe the st10 is across the board a little better than muncies, if you dont like the word "better" thats okay.
However,
I want old school and will ante up and go rockcrusher from a reputable shop, not becase i think its better but its better for my theme and what i want....

I guess that helps very little.

I agree...super Tranny. Mine is behind the 425+ Gross HP L-82 355 now for the past 5 years since the rebuild in 2014 and it has been flawless. I don't beat on mine but roll into the throttlle. 69,000 miles on the OEM BW SuperT10 and counting

Oh I've beat on mine from dead stops to 6200 rpm shifts. Not an everyday beating though.

Had a Super T 10 in a 1977 Z28 I`ve had since new. Beat it up pretty good during the summer of 1978 with the romping stomping stock 185 hp motor. Over the winter built a LT1 type motor in shop class that ran very well. Also had 4.45 gears in a 12 bolt rear end. Car would spin the tires for a nice distance so I`m guessing that helped out with the ST 10 never giving any trouble. I couldn't shift the Super T 10 as fast as I would like so I did new synchro`s and sliders before the end of summer. Changing out the sliders and synchro`s didn't help the speed shifting so I`ll take the blame on that. Then can across a new from chevy short block L88 motor in a heavy duty plastic a guy had bought from Chevy (as the story goes). The guys Father said its to much motor for him so I bought it including new cast iron heads, lifters in little GM boxes. Had machine work done on the L88 and put it in the camaro. Drove it for a summer and quickly found out I needed both hands on the wheel at all times. So we put a Turbo 400 in. Two reasons for the long post, All in all might of had 10,000 very hard miles on the ST10 and never had any trouble with it. Clutches yes, spider gears yes but never the ST10. Second reason is I like to talk!

Need to narrow down if it's a T-10...or a SUPER T-10. Regular T-10 not so great to me. Super T-10 is pretty stout.

My experience has been if you get a GOOD Muncie...it's really hard to beat them. I've still got the one that came with my car and it was probably the best shifting one I ever had….and I had a bunch of them. A buddy of mine had his rebuilt by Wade's transmissions in Dallas quite a few years ago. He flogs it unmercifully with a 525HP small block in front of it and it shifts fantastic.

I appreciate everyone taking the time to answer. I going to open them both up next weekend to make the final decision.
