Default C2 Convertible Top Fit

Should the rear bow of the convertible top be slightly concave downward to better fit the outside corner edges.
Thought I read something about this years ago by John Hinckley but cannot find the post.

The frame on my '67 is original and contacts the decklid all around. The rear bow follows the contour of the decklid. Dennis

If yours contacts the deck all around does the rear bow have a slight curve down from the center towards the corner and then curve up along the sides towards the windows?
Mine rear bow has a small gap between the weatherstripping and the deck lid near the corners. I've notice many C2's to be similar. Just seems the rear bow could follow the rear deck lid better.

I'm going to guess that the installer of the top did not install the weatherstrip correctly. It is unlike other soft tops so the installer needs to understand Corvette tops.

As stated by A-Snake, maybe the weatherstrip did not get installed correctly. That weatherstrip has a nylon cord inside of it. It must be pressed into the channel of the frame to secure the weatherstrip. Dennis

I'll check the weatherstrip. Never noticed a string? Any helpful pictures?

My top requires a lot of force to click into the second notch at the latches on the rear to close the gap at the corners. I don't think it was installed by a Corvette specialist.
I am curious about the string also. Couldn't find it in my weatherstrip. It shows in the 1968 manual I have but not clear enough to determine where it is or the function. My weatherstrip doesn't fit well at the ends next to the windows. Another winter project.

The nylon string/cord is in the fold/lip of the weatherstrip. It's that fold/lip that gets pinched into the small groove of the rear bow. Sometimes the end of the nylon string/cord is visible at the end on each side. Dennis

Here are a couple of pics of the nylon/cord/string. Dennis

So it is built into the weatherstrip and would not normally be seen at the ends?
I couldn't see the pictures.

Sorry guys, the pics won't upload for some reason. I tried 4 times. If your top weatherstrip has the nylon/cord you can actually pull it out since it's not permanently set in. I have two extra weatherstrips. One has the cord, the other does not. I have no explanation.

Had a replacement top installed on my '67 this year by an expert Corvette top installer. The rear bow section weather strip conforms to the top lid very closely if properly installed. As Bluestripe67 noted, the solid plastic "cord" (about 3/16" dia.), should extend the full length of the rear bow. In fact, it is this cord that holds the back of the top in place to the bow - no adhesive used at all. So, I would concentrate your attention on this area to correct your bad fit issue.
