Default Tire Replacement Decision

Just picked up a piece of metal in one of my rear tires last Saturday. Made it home by monitoring the TPMS ,

stopping twice and adding some air.

So now I'm looking to replace all 4 tires. Rears are 285/30ZR20 and the fronts are 255/35ZR19.

I'm looking at Hankook Ventus V12 EVO2 K120 (a summer tire) or Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus Non-run flats (all season tire).

Yes the Michelin's are a little more money but they would probably last twice as long.

The Hankook's are a summer tire so probably no driving under 40 degrees.

I don't track the car and it's not my daily driver, just a weekend fun car.

Any experience or other suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

I have Continental Extreme Contact Sports in 285/30/19 front & 335/25/20 rear & minus some issues I had with balancing the fronts initially (had both fronts replaced & probably an issue with Discount Tire as well) I like them. They handle really well, & don't seem to break loose very easily (not that I really try anyway).

I just ordered the same tires as JABCAT has, only problem is there is zero supply right now, Factory is making more and they should be here mid December.

Either way you go, Discount Tire is having a Black Friday sale starting tomorrow, saves you 10% https://www.discounttire.com/promoti...2fblack_friday

Plus Continental has $70 Visa back on a set of four right now. My total came out to just over $1K installed and out the door.

Personally, I would not put an all season tire on a Corvette, better to get a summer tire and just not drive it below 40 degrees.

I have had both, except the AS3+ were RF. Traction is about the same, noise is about the same but the AS3+ last over twice as long.

check into Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires............smooth, quiet, handle well and have a nice tread and sidewall design. They are non run flats and are priced very reasonable. Great tires for a weekender.

Thanks for the input. I saw these tires on Tire Rack's website. They have great reviews and are reasonably priced. My only issue is the installers TireRack shows for the area are all Firestone service centers or pep boys. I'm not sure I want to trust my like new 19 and 20 inch rims with these guys.

No personal experience with either but I have read that the Hankook is a little soft when cornering, at least this was a few years back when I did my research.

I also agree with the notion of eliminating the All Season tire from you list.

When I purchased my last set I went with the Bridgestone Potenza S0-4, a non RF tire. It got very good reviews on Tire Rack testing throughout all the testing., it is a well balanced tire. The Michelin Pilot Sports tested better but they are expensive and the Bridgestones came in second.

Mine are Base size tires and have no idea if the Potenza is made in your GS sizes.

I caution you to investigate the Hankook more, especially if you like to carve.

Depends where you live. Some of us would only get to drive our cars 6 months of the year or less with summer tires.

I'm in need of summer tires next Spring. I have had the older style Indy 500's for 3 tire changes, and I liked them alot.
I'm down to 2 choices, either the newer style Firestone Indy 500's or the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. As a side note, The All Season Cooper Zeon RS3-G1 also has good reviews
Michelin is more expensive, but also has better reviews.
Here are the comparison between the two summer tires.

Your wheels look familiar! I went with Michelins when I got the TSWs from Discount Tire Direct on line.

Those comparison numbers can be a little misleading when taken out of context.

While, our testing and survey results can be very useful the numbers are designed to only be used when comparing tires within the same category.

In reality the Firestone is a good tire but, does not really perform all that well in the wet

My Corvette is a 2012 Grand Sport

I am ordering new Forged Wheels in either 19x12 Rear AND 19x10 Front

Ive been wanting to avoid the short 25 ratio side walls vs the 30 ratio sidewalls
so I've been thinking 345/30-19 Michelin Super Sport NON Run Flats in the Rear
and 285/30-19 Front .....but just realized that Michelin doesnt mfg a 285 in NON RunFlat

My question is WHAT do people think/know about the Michelin SUPER SPORT NON Run Flat
vs The Michelin SUPER SPORT Run Flat

That's good to know about the indy 500's. Why did firestone change the tread pattern from the older style. Those were excellent in the rain with the tread design.
I was a little leary about the newer Indy 500's based on the tread pattern.
Firestone Indy 500's - OUT
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S -IN

If I stay want to order 18x10 & 19x12" FORGED Wheels
Can I have comments on using
345/30-19 Michelin Super Sport NOT Run Flat &
285/35-18 Michelin Super Sport NOT Run Flat

I want higher ratio side walls for a better ride ????

Other than the Flat Tire Issues What is Negatives about using
NOT Run Flats on my Fair Weather Non Track Driver (2012 Grand Sport)
The Positives are Higher Milege Tire at Lower Cost

I often drive ultimate summer performance tires under 40. Never had an issue but traction is certainly reduced. In the teens things do get dangerous if it is not sunny out with some temp in the roads.

I just went through the tire shopping process. My 07 coupe is a daily driver and I live in Oregon so 'summer' tires are not an option. One important factor to me is road noise with wear being a second factor. Anyway I opted for Pirelli P-Zero all season tires. They've only been on the car for a couple of days and it's cold and raining so I don't have anything more than a first impression but I think I will be happy with them.

Who do you trust to install any tire you choose then?...The Firestone service centers have the updated Hunter tire and alignment equipment at the 5 stores down here and they have certified techs.I'm on my 2nd set of Firestones and due for another set and they will be Firestones for sure.

Did you do your testing on the track?..I use Firestones and I've driven on wet streets with NO problems and the fronts are down to the wear bar,but of course I know how to drive in rain...No new tire is not going to do good in the rain if you don't slow down for the condition of the roads.
