427 Front Splitter - ACS vs. RPI
I am looking for a new front splitter for my 427 Vert. The car scrapes on everything and I would like to stow away my factory CF splitter for safe keeping and buy a "sacrificial" composite splitter so I don't have to cringe as bad at every driveway, bump or dip. I have narrowed it down to either ACS Composite ($399 in primer) or RPI Designs ($459 Painted). All things equal RPI seems like the better deal as I'm sure I can't get the ACS piece painted for anywhere close to $60. Looking for opinions from those who had experience with either or both. Most importantly, I do not want to be able to tell the difference from the factory piece once painted. I am also open to other suggestions, but looking for an OE Style bolt on replacement. Thanks in advance!

I have an ACS and it held on by about 30 rivets(maybe more), it's on there pretty good but be aware. I would not buy anything from RPI again....I bought my ACS from RPI and had them paint it...took 8 weeks to get it then I had to have my painter redo it because it was wrong. Totally pissed at how RPI handled that with me...but that's another story.

I chatted with ACS and they told me it bolted to the existing mounting holes. Is that not the case?

Rpi
FYI... in the last 3-4 months, I've seen an up-tick in the number of "negative" posts about dealing with RPI -- on this Forum and on a FB Vette Owners Site. I'm not saying they are 100% factual, but when there are more than a handful of negative reviews -- some with elaborate details about issues with order fulfillment -- I would suggest that one do their own deep dive into what ANY vendor can deliver within your expectations of what is "timely." Otherwise you could be setting yourself up for a negative experience.
FYI 2: I have had one experience with RPI (about 18 months ago) and it was positive.

Thanks, I'll make sure to confirm before I buy anything. Do not want any additional holes.

ACS is a manufacturer, great reputation and customer service
Other company's not so much.
ACS has made OEM parts for GM in the past if that tells of the quality and ability

My .02... with the ride height of a Vette... anything attached to the front lip is going to take some abuse. So, paying a lot of $ for a great paint job on something like a splitter would be reserved for a rig that doesn't get in too many situations where scrapping can happen. I'd be in "Doah! Mode" all the time every time I heard a scrape and my rig is a "weekend car" 99% of the time.

My car is NRB and the splitter is black. Plastic... Previous owner scraped it all the time and so do I. When I got the car I took a utility knife and cut the ground-up-fur off the bottom edge. I can't go to the bank drive through, I have to walk in and avoid that. Got stuck in there one day. Splitters are a pita. Look cool and all, but it's insane how they drag everywhere. I can't imagine having to paint one but I see you're pretty much stuck with it. My condolences on the paint work. It's gonna last 15 miles if you're super careful.

And the scrapping problem is a good reason not to spend more than $165 with free shipping for a front chin splitter for the wide-body GS / Z06

Thanks for all the responses! I agree the front splitter really is a PITA, but I really like the look and my factory splitter is about the only thing keeping my car from being flawless. I'm sure the new one will get beat up as well, but hopefully I can keep the paint on it for a couple of years. I don't have the part # for the factory CF splitter, but I'm sure it's expensive (if you can even get them anymore). I'd be pretty upset if I destroyed the factory piece.

I'm very happy with my C7 Carbon front splitter & side skirts as well as their customer service. The first splitter I purchased from them developed small hairline cracks in the paint within a couple weeks. They sent me a brand new splitter no questions asked.

how can you guys possibly keep them from scraping? Just the drainage on the streets where they slope the street down and it transitions at intersections is enough for mine to hit at 2 miles per hour. That's just stopping at a stop sign and pulling away. There's almost no where I can take my car that it doesn't hit. I don't know how you guys do it.

I’m surprised that by now no one manufactures a device to allow the driver to “lift” the front end while pulling in a driveway or over a speed bump. Some of the Audi’s come from the factory with this installed, it’s really slick.
Not sure how a guy would do it. Small airbags....?
Id be one of the first to buy it if one was available.
I wont even think of purchasing another ZR1 splitter. I haven’t seen one on a car that the thing isnt damaged in one way or another. At least until someone makes it out of a durable, flexible plastic like most OEM plastic pieces. Like the standard splitter.
