Are left and right seats the same (interchangable)?
I just bough a 1989, it has power seats but the drivers seat is stuck and unfortunately it is stuck too far back for me to drive safely. Looking online it appears the part for the seat track is the same left or right, which would indicate you can bolt it to either side of the car?
Can I take the seats out and put the passengers seat on the drivers side to get the car home?

Yes and no. The seat covers and cushions are the same. The seat frames not so much. The recliner control would be against console if installed on incorrect side.

Kevova must have "regular" seats with manual recliner *****. He is correct. The recliner **** is supposed to be on the outboard side. (This has never occurred to me before. Thanks.)
cdm747 must have "sport seats" in his 88. He is also correct. The controls on the bolsters are symmetrical side to side, there is no difference in where the controls are located after they are swapped.
There are two sets of mounting holes in the seat bases, one set for a specific position. Basically the seats are interchangeable side to side.
EDIT: The OP asked about the TRACKS. I honestly do not know whether they are interchangeable or not. I've never swapped the TRACKS.

The top side of the sport seats on my 88' are totally identical so they can be easily interchanged, as far as I can tell the tracks are the same but I can't say I looked super closely. I did just swap sides a month or so ago and as far as I can tell they were the same.

Must be nice to have a seat that's too far back!
In my '96 vert I had to put the seat as far back as it would
go and even then I just about fit. I'm 6-2 and a normal build.

Try these 2 things.... Might be worth a shot if you can hear the motor trying to work, but have no movement...
1. while pressing the button to move the seat forward, lift your weight off the seat and see if it moves...
2. Kneel down outside the car and while pressing the button to move forward, try taking your right hand and pushing hard on the back of the seat to see if you can get it to move.

Thanks for all the help. The base (the part that bolts to the floor) is what I would need to swap as that is the part that moves fore and aft. The rest of the seat could come with it or not as necessary
The car is allegedly being shipped tomorrow so I won't have to drive it home 500 miles. Assuming it gets here I will pull the seats this weekend and post my findings.
To be clear it is the base I need to switch from passengers to drivers. I got off the seat and tried to move it without my weight before the test drive, it would not move. I did not try pushing while running the motor. I could hear the motor running so I assume the problem is in the tracks and gears.
If I can swap left to right I probably won't replace it, at least not right away. No reason for the passenger to move forward. If I can't swap it I will need to replace it, as I need the drivers seat to be able to adjust forward and backward.
