Default Horsepower gauge

Have not seen this discussed. How does the horsepower gauge work? Suspect it works on an algorith with rpms, boost etc based on factory average data. Probably not very accurate. Not a biggie.Just a little factoid.I probably have watched gauge only once or twice in a year but ran across it recently again and was wondering. One thing I do know Is l probably have not seen anything close to the upper numbers on a public road especially in cold weather with the summer tires.

The engine software knows how much torque the engine is making based on engine parameters. Simple calc. from there: engine torque x RPM / 5252 gives you HP. I'm with you, my eyes are usually on the road when I am trying to get into the upper half of the band.

The horsepower gauge is a waste of dash space & very gimmicky. They could have done without it or at least put a useful gauge in its place.

Good video. That was far more useful & impressive than our stupid horsepower gauge.

REDNECK HP GAUGE: put a soft ball on a string and hang it from the T bar in a C3. When it hits the passenger in the head - cornering is good, when it's against the back of the T bar the engine is running well. When it hits the windshield the brakes are working well.

Also does weather: If it's wet it's raining.
