What did you Sell your SWC for When
Just to get some talk going on the Market in this quiet period in the Corvette market .
I thought this would generate some conservation .
Sold my 63 SWC Sebring Silver Black interior Power guild ,with a 65 frame
Had Red interior condition 1 ,numbers matching all NCRC parts number 1 Paint and stainless ,90,000 sold last year.
I know not many 63 owners selling .

I think you were lucky on that car - its a beauty but the frame, interior color swap and PG would not net you $90K now.
Its my opinion that the market has softened a bit...

Prices seem to be down right now-good time to buy. I liked your car. Do you miss it?

Back in 1971 I was working part time for a used car dealer. He bought a Split Window . They stripped it, Gel Coated it (no hit body), ready for paint. He offered it to me along with the necessary paint for $1800. I passed. (Was big block crazy back then and had a ‘69 427 435. Talk about missed opportunities.

It's a slow morning, so I guess I will play for a bit. Sold mine last Thursday for $115K ($120K with buyer's premium) at auction, link below. I did not think it was going to go that high, but in the end three buyers really wanted it. 340 horse car with original driveline, very strong paint, frame-off done in the 1980s with freshening since. Overall a #2/#2- car in my opinion.

Back in the 70's I was in the Air Force and stationed in Georgia. In the span of two days, I bought two SWC's. One for $1,000 and the other fot $600. Both were running and driving cars with 250 hp and powerglide. I sold one for $1,800 and thought that I had made a fortune.

When i was in my 20's (1980's) I made an offer on a Frankenstein modified 63 SWC that sat outside for years. The split was glassed over and it had glass over plywood owner inspired flares. I offered around $1k they wanted $5k-no deal. I saw the car again many years later in a different spot in the same area. It was still outside and i stopped to talk to the grandson of the previous owner. It was essentially a worthless hulk with severe birdcage and frame rot. The grandson thought it was a tanker which i assured him it was not. The car was destined for restoration he said.
About two years ago it was on this site. The owner took it to Texas and was selling it. Funny sometimes how things pop up like deja vu. I'd bet the VIN is on a resto mod now....

BaT yielded 28,000 views, and 1,400 watchers in a 7 day auction. Ebay, even in it's prime (which has long since passed), could not do 10% of that.
I would only sell via BaT or to the few dealers I know. In my opinion, the various forums, eBay, and craigslist are all fatally flawed as means to sell cars anymore.
I am still a little salty about selling this one, as it was not my intention to begin with. But I found out we were having another baby and a tremendous business opportunity all came about within weeks of getting the car in my possession, so sometimes things happen. I feel great about the buyer and the collection it's going into.

In the mid 1970’s, when I was 15, there was a junked ‘63 coupe in the hedgerow behind my house. The front was torn off the car. It was silver with red interior. From the firewall back, it looked perfect to me. From the first time I saw it, I was hooked on these. That color combo is up there with black/red. After the car sat a few years, and local kids broke the windows and stole the cluster, I spoke to the owner and he said I could have the car for $10. I never got it out of there and it’s long gone now. I have pictures somewhere and I will post them when I find them. ‘63 my favorite based on this and also I was born that year.
Regarding your car, I would have given you $90k for it. I’m not seeing nice cars like that for that dollar.

Former Vendor
1988, central Ca. Coast, '63 SWC, 327/250hp, 4 sp., Datona Blue/Bk. Vinyl, no options (save for the frosted hubcaps), 100% original (including paint), no rust, no hit, very nice chrome and stainless---purchased together with '64 XKE Coupe (also 100% original in excellent condition) for a total of $11,000.00.
Could not afford to keep both cars; sold the SWC the next week for $14,500.00--Thought I had won the lottery.
Drove the XKE for a couple of years (great little cruiser) before selling for another nice profit.
Oh well

I've bought and sold a few times on eBay and Craiglist with good results in both cases - but it took some work, a stellar ad with videos and putting up with a whole lot of jerks...

This picture still hurts a bit to look at...
I sold the 63 SWC shown in the following forum ad in June of 2014 for the asking price of $49,500. It was a bit of a Frankenvette in that it had a 350 crate motor, a powerglide replacing the original 4 speed with the sawed off clutch pedal still under the dash, a '66 interior, a '66 A/C front inner fender panel with the hatch for the battery, and missing rear interior split window trim. But it had a beautiful rust free frame, the body panels were nice, decent paint, and repro knock offs. I had it on the Forum (yep - you all had your chance to buy it) and on Craigslist. It was bought from the Craigslist ad by an east coast dealer who used my Craigslist pictures on his website to sell it before his shipper even picked it up. You may remember the ad:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...golden-co.html
Also sold the matching numbers no hit '67 Big Block shown in the pic for $79,500 (also available on the Forum). It seemed like a good idea at the time to sell these cars but now looking back I wonder what I was thinking... I swore I would start titling these cars in my wife's name with instructions to her not to sell them until I'm dead and gone but didn't do that with the recent purchase of the '66. Oh well. Maybe I'll learn my lesson some day

I bought my Sebring Silver split window Fuelly in the early 80's for $14,000.00 and it was a very nice car. Sold it about three years later and made a killing at $18,500.00.
Funny part is that the buyer said that I could buy it back for the same amount in the future. Wonder if he would still honor that today?

Nick, I didn’t realize that was your car. I drooled all over it (well, my keyboard at least) when it was on BaT. I completely agree with you about BaT as the place to sell. The more active you are as a seller and decent in how you handle the few idiots, the better you will do. I actually enjoy the format and sold my 1988 Defender on there recently for a very fair price.
BaT warned me on the front end that iPhone pics were not going to get the job done and referred me to a couple pro car photographers in the area, and the guy I went with did an excellent job. We mixed in a lot of photos taken by me to to give an idea of the car in different light and conditions. In the end, I think the scope of photographic detail and my participation in the discussion thread is what yielded a successful result.
I was secretly hoping it would not meet reserve, and even today I am pacing around looking at it working through my seller's remorse.

I also like the format. Engagement is key, and the community will "out" any cagey or indirect sellers.
