Default Trailering

Never trailered a car before let alone a Vette. I briefly researched car carrying trailers but I question its ability to receive a ZR1. I sure some of you guys have done this with G.S's and Z06's and would appreciate any tips. Thanks.

Need long ramps and a wide trailer. Before I purchased my C7Z I had a trailer with a 77 inch wide bed. My C4, C5s and C6Z all fit fine on the trailer. The C7Z was a squeeze especially fitting the front wheels between the trailer fenders. Almost no room with the stock wheels and a couple of mm's on each side with the track wheels. The rear track wheels literally hung off the trailer on each side. I now have a trailer with an 83 inch bed and the C7Z fits fine with about an inch to spare on each side when the track wheels are on.

The beaver tail of my trailer brings the load height down about 18 inches off the ground. To get the car on the trailer I have 5 ft long metal ramps that bridge from the trailer to a set of 6 ft long race ramps to get the car on the trailer. As the car comes onto the trailer the front splitter clears the trailer bed by about an inch at the minimum point. The ZR1 front splitter clearance could be a little closer. I don't know how far in front of the car it goes compared to the Z06 front splitter.

...is wide enough. And you'll need RaceRamps to go with the trailer's OEM ramps as they're not long enough.

18' Aluma tilt bed trailer here. Even with the tilt bed, I still need race ramps to clear the front. They sell a nice two piece race ramp where the ramp piece can be flipped over and will rest under the best of the trailer deck or pull out ramps. Deck is 82" between the fender and the front cameras allow me to bring it up and center the car.

I once drove out of state 3 hours pulling a snowmobile trailer to save sales tax on a $10k hot tub...
I was sweating it out the whole way home worried if the trailer tires might blow out or the Hot tub straps might let go and bye bye hot tub ......
Maybe you should just pay someone to ship your car......

I have trailered my Z07 and now my ZR1 literally thousands of miles with zero issues. Get the right equipment and the job is safe and easy.

We trailer all the time and our ZO6 has about 3" to spare on each side of our wide open trailer. we've never had any problems loading, but you need to be aware that there is not a lot of spare room. Our trailer tilts and we use ramps and our other car needs the tilt and ramps for loading.

What are the specs on this trailer? Looks like a nice setup.

I don’t remember all the specs. It’s @26ft interior length... overall it’s 30ft with tongue, etc..

They offer a nice “base” trailer but a long list of options... many of which I opted for. I had the two axles spread a bit to better distribute weight... the side opening door and removable fender allows you to open the driver’s door on low sports cars and enter and exit vehicles without having to climb through windows. I had front to back e-track set into the floor. The beaver tail rear and the extended ramps are all factory... loads the ZR1 with no clearance issues.

i would have added the finished floor and front cabinets (options), but had to conserve weight... the trailer is rated for 9,990 lbs which gives a payload of about 6,000lbs, however I tow with an SUV that is limited to 8,400lbs so I wanted as much payload as possible... cabinets and diamond plate flooring would have cut into that payload.

I forgot about the cameras in front. My featherlite enclosed has only 81" clearance between fenderwells. According to Shane at the NCM the ZR1 is 77.4" wide at the rocker panel aero (I pick it up this coming Tuesday). I did get the A8 so maybe I won't have to use the winch as I s-l-o-w-l-y load the car and make sure everything front to back is inline for a smooth unloading.

Get a good spotter and you will be fine. If I had an enclosed, I would def opt for the escape door since I don't see me being able to jump out easily otherwise. Good luck getting her loaded and home.

On an open trailer the body width may not matter as much as the distance across the axles does. You need to know the distance from the outer most part of the wheel on one side to the outer most part of the wheel on the other side of the car.

I am now beginning to miss my open trailer. I have thought about how to modify the fender wells to enable removal for loading and egress.

Good point about egress once you have the car on the trailer. We have removable fenders on the wheel and need to remove the driver side fender to get out of the car. The Corvette sits pretty low. My buddy mounted blocks on his trailer and drives up on them so he can get out.

I used an open trailer for years, and the fender wells were removable (held in place by spring-loaded hooks. Super easy to take off and put on). That made getting in and out of the car on the trailer a ton easier.

I had an electric winch to pull the car into my enclosed trailer. No need to contort your body getting in and out of the car. I would just leave the driver side window open to do minor steering adjustments, but rarely needed it.
