Default Oil Line Help

Hi everyone, was wondering if someone could help breakdown a question I have.

My 2009 Z06 was running funny recently, it felt like it was breaking up/losing power around 4k rpm and higher on WOT. Doing a search here led me to check for cracked spark plugs and/or wires. The plugs looked fine, they were new NGKs installed at the end of August. I changed the plug wires to MSDs because one of them did have a cracked casing at the coil part, and the AC Delcos on there from previous owner were looking old... but after the MSDs the problem still persisted. Upon looking at my engine bay a second time I noticed one of the lines from the sump reservoir was disconnected! (circled in red in the picture, but thats not my car i just stole a screen shot)
I reconnected and it snapped in and seemed to be fine. After a test drive the car drove normal as usual until WOT at 3500-4k and above. After returning home i rechecked and the line was still snapped in but I still am having this issue.

Im running an ECS 2200 charger, perhaps its overboosting in this colder NY weather? I was tuned at the end of August by JTM Motorsports on an 80-85 degree day, only ~8lbs of boost. I recently installed an MSD 2 step module and thought maybe that was an issue and/or I damaged something by trying it, but after disconnecting it I still had the breaking up issue.

So, could someone breakdown exactly what those oil lines run to? And any further advice on the 4k and above issue?

If it's breaking up at higher RPM, it may be your plug gap. What is your gap set to? No boost gauge?

Plug gap was set to 40. It was less than that but before and after still the same issue.

I'm getting a gauge soon, just bought a dash logic off a member here and as soon as it arrives will throw it on.

By 40, you mean .040 correct? That's a pretty big gap for a blower setup. Take them down to .030 and see if the problem is still there.

Yeah .040
Ah man, I could have sworn I saw somewhere on here that 040 was a good gap... Well they were tighter than that before I gapped them so the 040 definitely wasn't the original issue.

If I remember correctly that line is part of the pcv and runs up to either the air inlet or the intake manifold/valley cover. You should be able to take off the fuel rail cover and follow it easily.

.040 is HUGE on a blown setup. I run a .028 gap on anything over 10 psi, but for low boost like on a vette, I'd feel comfy with .030 as a good starting point. Whack on it a few times. Then open them (gaps) until it reached "blow out" and then go back to the previous gaps and leave that as my baseline. It has nothing to do with your lines as you said you replaced the disconnected hose and the problem still persists.

If your bolded comment is correct, than you opened your gaps as tighter is a smaller number. Which I bet is your problem. Go the OTHER way, close the gaps, and report back.

If it started happening when the weather got cooler, it could very well be a tune issue. I wouldn't drive it hard, or at all, until you can log your car.

So i took the car out Friday because it was about 50 degrees out, and i regapped the plugs down to 030 like you guys suggested. Im only on about 8.3lbs boost. Whats really weird is I when I would go half throttle and bring the RPMs up to 5k slowly there was no issue. And a couple pulls from about 4k-6krpm were great! But then when i would punch it from 2500-3k and it would rise up to 3500-4k then it would feel like it was breaking up again!

The good for nothing post office didnt deliver my package on Saturday like the tracking said it was supposed to, so I didnt get my dash logic piece yet. Its supposed to come today buy dont know if ill get the car out after work.

Guys thanks for all your suggestions and help, sorry i never got back to this.

I got a dashlogic and didnt see any knock retard. Boost seemed to be holding fine at 7lbs. However, someone suggested to me it could be a cold weather related issue. And ever since the temps here in NY have been well over 40+ this issue of "breaking up" has gone away. Havent felt it in several drives and many pulls since a few months ago.

So not 100% sure if it was the tune not being great in cold weather or what... But it seems to have gone away.

Gaps still at .030? Should go no bigger than .032 IMO...but some cars with hotter coils maybe able to get away with bigger. All the same, glad she's running well.
