Default Opinions on lowering over stock?

  1. Stay stock
  2. Lower on Stock bolts - easy
  3. Lower on Lowering Bolts - harder
  4. Chuck the whole thing and do Coilovers - hardest and Mag Ride is gone
Which of these you prefer and why ?

Looks like the owners with the drop spindles hit the wheel with the lower control arms, at least when used with the 18" wheels. This might be a big problem for those who'd like to use the car mostly at the track. I don't know if this is a problem with larger wheels, though..

I can see that being a potential issue. Im on the stock 19/20 setup still. I did have to trim the front brake cooling ducts a little because after installing the spindles, the ducts hit the wheel weights on the front wheels

Lower on LG is a HUGE waste of money! Unless you are tracking the car seriously i wouldn't it on asthetics purpose only!!
drop on stock bolts is the furthest i would go. I also cutted a rib on the stock bolts at the back.

Waste of money is relative. You keep your suspension geometry correct, and dont lose shock travel like you do with lowering bolts. To me the shock travel alone is worth the price of admission

I agree with you on the geometry benefit, but it comes with clearance issues of its own. I wish they had a half inch drop version, which would hopefully avoid all these issues and provide a "free" drop.

so are you implying lowering on stock bolts puts excessive wear on the shock thus having a need to replace them prematurely?

No I am implying that less shock travel is never a good thing except in very specific circumstances where a bump stop is able to be used to help control the shock, almost making it having two specific stages of dampening. This is going to be a bump by bump type of scenario and really to my knowledge is only going to be utilized in a track setup

We modify the arms in house for that. We can do a core exchange for customers wanting to run 18's on track. (Picture is a late night hasty job on a shop car, customer/product version would be a bit cleaner).

Lowered mine on stock bolts (cut my rear bushings in half).
Looks great and only cost the price of an alignment afterwards.
I've been driving on it for 8k miles now with 0 issues.

Did you cut the bushings in half at the same time you lowered on stock bolts for the first time?

Meaning did you lower the bolts, then found out it wasn't low enough, then cut the bushings?

Or was this all in one shot?

Reason why i'm asking is because i wanna have an idea how much of a drop i'll get if i turn the bolts all the way down on all 4's. I don't have the Z07 package so i don't have the 4x4 look. But with my aftermarket wheels and lower offsets, i notice the wheel gap more. I could fit 3 fingers from tire to fender on all 4. I would like to at least lower it to 2 fingers lol.

On my C6GS i turned the bolts all the way down on all 4 and cut the bushings clean off in the rear. Drop was 1/2" front and almost 1" in the rear. It looked great.

I have 12.5k miles on my car and i had it 2.5 years so even if the shocks get messed up from the drop around the 30-40k mile mark, it won't matter because by then i would have traded the car in for something newer, hopefully the C8 performance model lol.

I have the Z07 package/suspension so I lowered on stock bolts. Not much difference, but I feel comfortable with it and compared to my C5 that I slammed, it's nice having a little more movement without worrying about scraping the front splitter, etc. The car still has a nice rake to it as I'm going for best performance vs. best looks. Plus it's nice not hearing that scrape every time I back out of my driveway. I've gone through three of the lower 3-piece lower air dams on my C5.

I cut the rear and turned fronts all the way down at the same time when I lowered on stock bolts. I have the Z07 package. I think you'll be OK without cutting bushing on non-Z07 car.

I'm keeping mine stock. Too many steep driveways and potholes in PA to lower it at all. It rides good too.

Lowered the rear on stock bolts and cut my rear bushings in half and lowered the front all about 1 inch on my Z07. Now 25k miles later all is well although the front is a bit to low. My car has been tracked a lot at Watkins Glen and other tracks running in the fastest groups, in my opinion shock travel and track issues is BS. These mag shocks work great and I haven't even got the update because I like the handling that well. We own a suspension set shop. Just do it!

Lowered on Stock Bolts. Easy, no additional cost, and I'm at about 29,000 miles with NO (0) issues
