Default Security Code?

Is there a way to obtain the security code to my car without going through the dealer. My ECBM is bad, I purchased anew gem module and replaced it, but during programming it asked me for a security code.

SPS should not be asking for a security code. Are you sure the VIN and program part number are correct?

When a module gets replace it has no VIN to it, It's all zero.
I'm not trying to reflash the old one as it's bad Hence replacement. it's the new one.

Can you post a screen shot of what's going on? I've never heard of this.

Huge change in sps programming for the C7 from GM, now that they have to allow the consumer a way to flash the car themselves. Hence C6 time, pretty much no cheap way to SPS flash/no Electronics right to repair laws, and was pretty much a dealer only kind of thing.

Now with TDS $40 subscription and tech II clones legal., you have to input the C7 cars security code number for a great deal of the flashes on the C7 for sps programming/firmware flashes. The security code of the car comes on the original invoice only, and so long at the car is not a salvage car, GM can do a security code look up like you do for the key code number off the vin to cut a new key. (security code number is no the same number as the key code number).

So in Dale's case since he picked up the car as a salvage title, does not have the original invoice for the car to get the number from it, and the fact that GM will not give him the secuirty code number since it still shows the car as a savage title on the look up, gets kind of dicey on doing flashes on the car that some firmware flashes require the input of the secuirty code too. To make the problem even worse, to correct the mileage on the speedo to make the mileage on the BCM/ECM match, this requires that GM writes a special VCI file that is dealer level only, and since the car is showing up at salvage title, can not get this VCI file written for the car as well. Hence unlike the C6 where when you flash the new cluster in with SPS, it will pull the mileage from the BCM, on the C7, you first flash the ICP in to marry with the BCM, then have to have GM create a VCI with the correct mileage to flash that in next. So Dale has the ICP flashed in and married to the BCM, but since he can not get the secuity number, and GM will not write the VCI file, his speedo is not talking to the BCM, not registering any miles (BCM is tracking them fine though).

So although GM has to have a way for the consumer to flash the car, they are able to block you out/wash there hands such when the car becomes a salvage title car instead. As for the work around of changing the title from salvage, to rebuilt title, jury is still out on if this will change GM stance of security code look up, and VCI speedo file. Hence Telsa won it stances that once one of there cars becomes a salvage car, no longer had to support the right to repair laws, and GM is just following along as well.

As for the whole consumer having a way to firmware flash the car ( electronics right to repair), it all stems from here when John Deer got greedy with the farmers, so you can thank the farmers for this one, which carried over to cars on the laws as well.
