Default Drove a C7 GS today....

My boss has a 2017 Grand Sport that I took for a drive today in order to help diagnose a "clunking" in the front suspension steering. Keep in mind, the newest Corvette I've owned was my 2003 Z06....what I can't get over about the C7 is how small it is inside. It reminds me of a first generation Hummer...or two F-16 cockpits with a coffee table separating them. I was floored given how long and wide the car is from the outside. Obviously it drives like a cruise missile (clunking not withstanding), but I could never live with that car. My '64 coupe is roomy by comparison.

Anyway, just found the car interesting....absolutely zero desire to own one. That LT1 motor though.....

We had a C7 and at 6'4" I passed on driving it much. My 67 has more room by a bunch.

That's one of the "raps" on a C7, less room in the seating/head area than previous generations

I don't feel the C7 confining at all. I am only 5'11" though, I think my '61 has less headroom. The C7 center console may be what makes you feel it is less roomy, but the interior does good job of keeping you in your seat on 1.2 g turns. The little round thing on the bottom left of the screen is the accelerometer in the youtube vid.

Yea, I suppose I should have included, I'm 6'6/210lbs. I will say that my C5 was quite comfortable. The C7 just felt claustrophobic.

Default No Country for Old Men

I purchased a new 2006 C6 and still own the car. I would have already owned a C7 if it were not for the reason you listed.

I'm 6', 200 lbs. and this past Feb..I put 8000 miles on my new 2017 in 41 days. I found the car very comfortable and roomy for the driver but understand that the passenger seat has less space.

C7s are definitely claustrophobia. As a C6 owner I assumed a C7 would be about the same inside, but the cockpit is narrow for both driver and passenger and the passenger has a LOT less leg room than in the C6. I'm 6'1" and 175. My C2 the roomiest of all. C7s look bulky to me and when you add in the small interior with less luggage space the car is a no-go.

Greg, At 6^6," you are too tall! I'm 6^1", 225 and fit fine in my C7 Z. The first couple of times I drove a C7 I felt a little claustrophobic. They feel more confining than the C5 and C6. The dimensions of the C7 interior are actually the same as the C6. I fit fine in it. The Viper is more confining, for sure. The LT-1 is a slug compared to the Z06/LT4. Kind of overkill for the street, but fun. The new stuff is amazing.

The c7 s have a wrap around enveloping designed interior...bringing everything close..

its not that there is much less room..its that the interior literally wraps itself around you that creates the impression of less space...or so ive been told....supposedly creating a feeling of intimacy with the sports car...

cant tell if its real or memorex but thats the storyline ive heard...

figured id share for a laugh...

sounded like bull sh t to me...

I find the last three generations feel low to me as well - I can almost put my left palm on the ground to scramble out of the cockpit. I drove a friend's C6 a couple of hours back and forth to Daytona Turkey Run a few years back and I thought my backside would get road rash....but it was an exhilarating ride...for sure.

If C7s are tighter than that (or just feel that way) that's a problem for me - but, perhaps, like the C1, they look cramped but once you're "down in there" its actually not bad...

I agree with you Greg. I've owned my C6 for a decade and it's long been my favorite long trip car and I'm 6' 2" and 200++ however, when I considered upgrading to a C7 I just could not get over how cramped the interior felt. It is as if the designers overdid the cockpit cocoon thing, particularly where the divider waterfall between the seats comes back so far. Do like the power plant, though. Now, about those taillights.

I personally love the green house feel of the C2 coupe compared to the later cars. I'm in the process of making some brackets that will mount my seats directly to the floor, as far down and back as possible. The combined with the C3 steering wheel with less dish should make my '64 almost "roomy" by comparison.

Did you find the "clunking?"

No.....difinitively in the front right. Something was loose, either in the steering or suspension if you had the wheels turned more than 30 degrees from center line. Without being able to get the car in the air, it was difficult to investigate further. Dropped it at the dealership after a very slow, careful drive across town. Ill be curious to hear what they come up with.

What a bummer to hear that..had a real hard time fitting in C2-3, 4 was too tight but doable here and there
The C7 is big enough whats their excuse ? Ive driven much smaller cars with plenty more room .

I have the Z06/Z07 C7 and this car has all the refinements ever needed. I added an intake and LG long tube headers and ditched the converter.....on the chassis Dyno with tune the car achieved 607 hp at the rear wheels... I agree about being tight in the seat, but the car really handles far better than my Z06 C5 that I sold to my brother in law.

Corvette was criticized about having bland interior, so this was their resulting reply. They went a bit too far IMO.....but it is like a F-16 fighter seat....

Owned a 2018 GS about this time last year with my son. It was a good fit, but I'm only 5'11" and actually easier getting in and out of than my 62. But, I wanted a classic look vette so this car was a mistake and it just didn't do it for me emotionally, so I sold my half to my son a few months later. BUT, it is the most sophisticated, powerful, fun car I've ever driven. It is like a cruise missile and wheels.
