What are these extra numbers stamped above the VIN?

The dealers sometimes stamped the date they took delivery, on the VIN tag, sometimes on the Trim tag. My 65 GTO has the delivery stamp too.

If you look at the Vin tag and you see the Chevrolet and the DD that was intended for the delivery date. Most dealers did not stamp it in.

Dealers were suppose to stamp the VIN plate with the DD but most didn't. I think partly that early on the VIN was spot welded on so when they tried to stamp the DD it fell off.
