I changed the oil when the oil life monitor ran down to 10%, 6347 miles and six months since new. Just before I launched on a 2500 mile road trip

Are response from forum members really going to change what you do? Follow what the manual says at a bare minimum to maintain your warranty. If you want to do it sooner, go for it, won't hurt anything other than your wallet.

One of our good ideas is to make the first oil change at about 500 miles to flush the break in wear metals out sooner rather than later. This practice has been backed up by oil change analysis.

You read more into the post than I did. Simply just asked at what mileage did you do the first oil change.
Been discussed to death in these forums. Follow the manual or more frequent. You could change your oil every 1500 miles and I guarantee with oil testing there is going to be less debris in those samples than changing it every 2500 miles. Engines wear. The question is really how well is the oil still performing to protect from that wear.
Anyway, topic already

Thanks all!! I was just wondering as I have two free that I have to use in a year and wanted to get an idea what folks did. Trying to see how to split up two oil changes in one year, haha. Thanks all!

My local dealer insists on 20% or less on oil monitor for free changes (except for the 500 mile one of course)

Only time I'd be a little more picky is during engine break-in periods. First 500 change, again 1000-1500mi, and from then on go once a year or whenever the OLM goes below 20%, whichever comes first.
I'm about to do the 500mi change on my GS, I haven't decided whether to do another myself at 1500 or not. I'd like to get inside the oil filter before I decide that. On my 88's 398 build I changed at 500, 1500, and 3000 before going to once a year.

I did my first change at 1100 miles, but didn't use the freebie from the dealer (I will never take my car to a dealer for an oil change) I also believe in frequent oil changes during the beginning of an engine's life so I did the second oil change at 3100 miles and the third one at 8700 miles. From this point on I will now follow the oil life monitor.

It's really up to you, to the extent of accepting what your C7's Owners Manual advises.. The maximum mileage number between oil and filter changes is 7,500. The Owners Manual also advises 1 oil and filter change once each year, regardless the mileage. You can take or leave the manufacturer's advisory on that one. As stated; it's all up to you on when you change it.

If a new car, I would do the 500 mile change, then follow the oil life monitor.

There is no requirement to change a wet-sump oil at anything other than when the OLM tells you that it's time. Can it hurt to change at ~1000 miles? No, but you won't void your warranty by doing it or not doing it. Pretty sure there is no data to support either choice.

OP asked about a BASE CAR which is wet sump not dry sump ....500 mile change is for dry sump.
up to 3000 miles before first oil change is "ok" so they say for wet sump non z51 stingrays.
I changed mine at about 2300 miles on my base 2018 c7 Lt1

I have a 2018 Stingray with the wet sump engine and I did my first oil change at 500 miles last November 2017. I just recently did the 2nd oil change at 4600 miles approximately 1 month ago. The oil life monitor stated it was time to change it. My service writer at the dealer also is telling me that I too am getting a third free oil change. In the future I will continue to schedule my oil changes as per the oil life monitor as opposed to a specific range of miles.

I forgot to mention that when I changed my oil at the 1100 mile mark and sent the oil out for analysis, there was a slight bit of fuel in the oil (1%) and the viscosity had thinned out to a 5w20. So that reason alone is a good one for wet sump owners to not push that factory fill too far. I suspect the higher fuel dilution was due to the engine still not being quite as tight, combined with a lot of cold starts during the assembly/shipping process.

I did mine at about 700, dealer did not have the new oil in and used old. They finally got some new in and had me come back for a freebie which was about 1500 miles.
I wanted to wait as per the manual, but was not comfortable doing so and changed it purely as a feel good benefit.
