New to Board-1968 427 convertible
Thought I would say hello to the board. I have been doing a lot of reading on the site and finally pulled the trigger on a '68. Should have her home just before Christmas. Car is numbers matching from the carb to the rear end, but will need paint down the road. Looking forward to the projects ahead.

The current paint is a 15 footer and I will live with it for a year or two. The original was Corvette bronze (orange), black interior and white soft top.
The car trim tag shows a January 30 build date and the engine being January 11th.
One slightly odd thing I noted as the listed January VIN production numbers. The list I saw said the last VIN went to 86 (last two digits) for January, but this car is the 88th car for the month. Bad bookkeeping or mis-stated on the site I saw???
Also, it has a ballast resistor, which I thought ended in 1967???

Two interesting things with the car.
1. The car trim tag shows a January 30th build date, and the engine stamp shows a January 11th date. However, when I looked up the VIN numbers produced in January 1968, this car is two digits outside the listed range. Incorrect website or poor bookkeeping? Thoughts? BTW, Jan 30th was a Tuesday.
2. The car has a ballast resistor on it. Didn't they stop using this in 1967?

HEI didn't show up till 74? or so.....ordinary breaker points had a ballast resistor in the + lead of the coil primary.....and I join the other two guys, that paint sure looks GOOD in the pix anyway, my car is about the same type of color green as yours is burgundy, which used to be the color of my car, unless you got some sadness not seen, hell man, leave it alone.....
My paint is only 10-10 you know, ten feet away at ten mph....looks GRAND.....

It could have been part of the transisterized ignittion, could have been some thing a PO added, could be a lot of things in a 50 year old car....
Welcome aboard, your going to find a lot of weird things with a 68.
On the dates, motors were built in a seperate plant and shipped to to put in the car so they have different dates, The books have all sorts of incomplete or incorrect data. Sometimes they dont agree with each other. There was many updates and changes in the 68 year to fix production problems
