Default Vintage Air vs RPM

I have a Vintage Air system on my 72 with an LS3 in it. It has a Sanden Compressor on it. I have heard they do not like a lot of rpm when the compressor is engaged. Has anyone used a cut out that shots off the compressor at a certain rpm? Is it even needed? I don’t plan on spinning mine much above 6200 rpm as the hydraulic lifters don’t really like it and power is about maxed out there anyway. I have heard some use a MSD rpm limiter but does anyone else do this or am I creating more work than is needed.

I did it on a friends worked 327, I just used a relay and a RPM switch interrupted the wire to the compressor. - I can't remember but I think it was an Accel rpm switch. Works off the tech wire on the distributor or box.

He asked if I could do it so I did. I think Speedway has the switch as does Jegs

The LS3 computer can do it, just re-wire it to switch the AC through the PCM.

that is a good idea but he vintage air and the computer are two separate harnesses. I am running a PSI harness for the LS3 and there is no wire for the AC. I would assume that is how the factory does it but marrying the two systems might be a challenge.

There is a mystery orange wire that VA says is not used but if you go into the diagram it is used for a full throttle shut off. I wonder if I could tap into that with a rpm shut off. I’ll have to give VA a call on this I would assume. It’s all out in the open right now I want to do it now instead of taking it back apart later.

Just as an update Vintage Air said at 6200 rpm I should not have a problem. The compressor can handle that rpm.

I had an AC vacuum cutoff switch 30 years ago on a 73 nova SS and 1972 Caprice:
