Default Simple deep trans pan question

Hi

can we run one on a stock car with a th350?
or do we get ground clearance issues? Never seen a deep pan before.

cheers

I do not believe it will be the lowest point in the front. But that depends of which brand and capacity you are referring to. Funny thing about those deep pans is that Summit has dozens with different quart capacities but no info on actual depth. I have contacted the pan company themselves to get the actual dimensions. You should be safe going two inches deeper than stock. Front tire diameter will affect this slightly.
Keeping it 2 Qts extra or less should be shallow enough.

I used this brand on my th350 with a big tranny cooler. I was using a 9.5 inch 3200 rpm stall. Even though my tranny temp ran below 160 degrees the tranny still shattered some parts and I had chunks of aluminum in the pan.

My header collectors were lower and would hit before the deep pan. I just learned to take bumps at an angle.

I just put a deep cast pan on my th400, and as you can see that pan is right even with the headers, and the engine oil pan. Not sure the actual depth though. I was running the stamped steel truck pan before, and that never hit anything. It looked to be the same depth as the new cast pan...two extra quarts over a stock pan.

Very handsome pan. Temp bung on the side. Looks like drain is in the rear. Top-notch gasket. And shift cable bracket appears to fit.

I wish all the trans-pan companies would put the drain plug on the side. You know. Away from speed-bumps. Is that too much to ask?

It's a B&M pan from Summit. The shifter bracket I had to grind on the bench grinder to clear the pan. I imagine all cast pans would need some sort of mod like that for clearance.

Ironically, I had my eye on that cast B&M unit for quite some time. The price seems to jump $15 a yr. Lately I have my eye on the Summit cast unit which is cheaper and maybe the same pan but w/ Summit logo dead-center. I have all B&M goodies throughout but can't justify the cost of the pan just yet.

I use the GM TH400 truck pan. It holds about 1½ qts. more fluid and is 3" deep. It is not as low as the headers in my car. You will need the slightly longer truck pick-up with it. Similar to this one, but other vendors sell it also....https://kmjperformance.com/gm-chevy-...ity-th400.html

I have an aluminum tranny pan, but the cooler is WAY more important.

Given a choice between the two, it's a no brainer.

Is this the correct pick up tube that is needed for the truck pan: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pump-Intake...-/141645150928

Not quite true. Under load heats up oils and fluids. Additional volume increases the time it takes to reach critical break down temps. Oils and tranny fluids are slow to release temp going through a finned cooler. Put a temp gun on the input and output of a tranny or engine oil cooler and you will see how little it takes out. I went to a deep pans because of drag racing. On the stage line when you power brake or trans brake you flash the fluid temp up really fast unless you have the additional volume.

Cruising down the road is where the cooler does it's job. Can we agree to disagree!

Yep, that's the one. Any transmission repair shop or rebuilder usually has it.

I did a spirited hill climb, and boiled 3 qts out of my tranny. Installed a cooler, and now it runs very cool to the touch.

I can see more fluid in a drag race car, as the converter is the main source of heat. Most people here have road cars.

Volume adds stability. Heat exchangers remove heat,
