Default Tach drive dizzy rebuild

1965 with a tach drive distributor. Pulled it out the other day and it has quite a bit of up/down thrust. Well north of .05", maybe even .100". Thinking that can't be good although I have no idea what the proper amount is.

Regardless, want to have it gone through. I've seen a number of shops offering this. Anyone here have one that's good/quick?

Thanks.

Lars has rebuilt mine - none better...
But, like many of the best technicians, I hear various rumors now of if he's still doing them or not...
I can provide his email address if you PM me....

He rebuilds them, runs them on his Sun machine, optimizes the map and provides a graph of the advance curve - reasonably and fast (or at least he used to)...

up and down should be 002 to 007 from memory, simple to shim just put gear back same. will help keep timing accurate.

Overhauling a distributor is simple as long as the shaft bushings don't have to be replaced. The basic procedure is in your 1963 Corvette Shop Manual including the shaft end play spec. Also search for threads started by me and download the distributor blueprint/overhaul discussion.

Be sure when you assemble that the dimple in the side of the drive gear is pointing the same direction as the rotor tip. This is VERY IMPORTANT to get right, but it's not mentioned in any of the service literature.

Another one for Lars, he rebuilt mine and really woke up the 327/365. I didn't even realize that I had the incorrect vacuum advance on it till he told me. Lots of positive reviews on him right here, just do a search.

Not a difficult task that most DIY's. I wrote an illustrated article on the procedure. If you like a copy give me your email address.

Amazing how new car terminology makes its way into old car technology. Before computerized spark and fuel control, the term "map" wasn't used to describe a distributor advance curve. And there wasn't anything called a "curve" or a "map" to describe the fuel delivery. Just sayin'
