I wanted 180 mph, got 178.29 instead
So I went back out to the Omega half mile event this past weekend to see what the car would do with the latest cooling updates, etc. I was hoping to hit 180 mph but the best I could do was 178.29, at the cones anyways since I stayed into it a bit longer just to hit the number. There was a pretty nasty headwind all day long except for this pass, other passes with the headwind were a couple mph lower. I tried backing up all the way to the rear on one of the other passes and it just spun pretty bad and ended up being worse so this was the best of the day. I wasn't racing anybody next to me since I just wanted to get on it right away to hit that number, oh well maybe next time when it has a cam in it.

Nice run! I was going to come out there on Saturday but something came up. I would like to bring my car to something like this sometime, but I'm a rookie at this sort of thing. Where can I learn more about making sure I'm meeting safety and mechanical requirements properly?

I think I got a video of those runs.

Nice! I was doing this "unsanctioned" once as a young man, side by side. There was a huge gust of side wind at about 140mph, and both cars kind of got "picked up" and set back down (old cars, no downforce). It was epically weird and unsettling! A C7 is a much better choice...

Amazing how quickly you are at 150!
nice, wish we had something like that around here.
Edit: a little googling and what do you know. There is one close!

I believe last time on the dyno it was around 730 rwhp and 770 rwtq, that's on a standard dynojet with typical SAE corrections.
Sweet!

Nic nice run. I noticed you ran Nitto NT01's on the rear. You apparently do this enough that you have a feel for what works for tires that are safe and will bite at your HP level (around 730). I am going to be running 19 X 12 rear rims and am looking for tires that could be used for both 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2 miles. Are the drag radials safe for the speeds you are running. They provide the traction but I am curious with the softer side walls if they are stable enough and rated for 180 MPH runs. You have any idea how much stage 3 aero would have slowed down your run.

Oh yeah for the stage 3 aero vs stage 1, if I remember correctly at the last event there were a couple of stock Z06s out there and one was stage 1 while the other was stage 3 and I seem to remember the stage 3 was down 4-5 mph over the stage 1.

NT05s are more of a street tire compound and construction and have all of the limitations of a true street tire. NT01s are a much stickier tire meant for road racing and aggressive street but again definitely not a drag tire for 1/8 and 1/4 mile stuff.
