Default Calling all Canadian C6 owners

As a new (to me) first-time corvette owner, I was wondering where all my fellow Canadian C6 owners buy their accessories (lights, exhaust, performance parts, etc).
  • Do you buy from forum vendors in the US?
    • If so, have you had any issues with warranty claims?
    • Do you get better pricing from US vendors vs Canadian vendors?
    • Do you have the items shipped directly to you here in Canada or to a US drop delivery location near a border and cross to pick it up?
    • What about taxes and duty?
  • Are there any good Canadian vendors that you can suggest?
  • Is it worth even trying to find Canadian vendors?
Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Hello NBVette,

welcome to the forum.
Feel free to pm me for any specific question or parts. But, to answer your question, the market is much bigger in the USA, so for a majority of the parts you need, it will be better to order from there. Couple of places you might get good deals on parts in Canada, and surprisingly, the dealer might have SOME parts at reasonable price also.

Over the last 10 years, i have ordered a couple of things, so feel free to ask me anytime.

Cheers

Marc

Welcome, and congrats on your 1st Corvette.
I see you are from NB, and somewhat close to a border crossing into Maine.
I've done it different ways, depending upon the $$ conversion rate.
I've also used on line Canadian Vendors as well, but they are a bit higher in price.
1) Forum Vendors- US based. Ship to Johnson's or C & E feeds Calais ME- pay $3.00 per package Must be pre registered with them to get a PMB # in order to get parcels sent to them. If you go over to pick up packages and return immediately to Canada, you will likely have to pay the tax, same as you would if you buy any merchandise in Canada. (No duty has to be paid) NAFTA trade deal
If you are in the US for over 24hrs, you can claim $200.00 per person without paying taxes on crossing back into Canada.
2) Canadian vendors- A bit higher in price, and shipping is much higher than it is in the US. Also check local parts places. They can often match or beat any online pricing in Canada. My son's business sells parts and he can beat any online price.
3). Amazon.ca has many parts, and easy to find if you can put in the part #.
3) Rock Auto will ship to Canada with no brokerage fees and reasonable shipping as well.

send me a PM if you want more info.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. Have you ever run into any warranty issues with items ordered from the US?

Only once have I had to return an item, which was a steering shaft. I just let them know that i had the wrong part (hydraulic instead of electronic). They sent me a new one, and a return shipping label for the one I returned. The real issue is at the border crossing. Make sure that you stop at the Can customs before crossing over into the US, letting them know that you are returning an item, so they don't charge you tax on the new one when you cross back over into Canada.

Hope this answers your question. I'm in Quispamsis, where are you located?

Congrats. I really like the 2 tone interior. It looks in great condition. How many KM's.
Are you running a seasonal plate?

We may have to touch base in the Spring when we get them out of hibernation. This is where my C6 is stiing for the winter.

Thanks. It is in great condition. It has 140k km's on it but I had it checked out before buying it and everything is tight. There are a couple of minor things such as the "buzzing" sound at highway speeds but I know what it is and will be ordering a new windshield cowl to fix the issue. For now, it was quickly fixed with a piece of black duct tape. I have a few other cosmetic updates planned as well, some sooner than others. Just to list a few (in no particular order):
  • New garage to store her in at home
  • LED Side Marker lights
  • LED Fog Lights
  • Morimoto Bi-LED Headlight replacement (Still deciding if I like the Morimoto replacement LED Taillights)
  • Blackout Flag Emblems
  • Update Stereo Head Unit
  • Aftermarket Rims
  • Borla S-Type II Exhaust

I don't currently have a seasonal plate on it but will most likely switch when I take it out mainly for the fact that I won't legally need the front plate (I HATE front plates). We will definitely need to meet up in the Spring. Are you a member of the SJ Corvette Club?

No this one. Scroll down the various forums and find Upcoming Events and Regional Discussions. Then click on Canadian Events.

It's cheaper to have parts shipped to a U.S. address compared to having UPS or Fed Ex deliver to your place. The brokerage fees are brutal. That will only work if you're reasonably close to the border. I find it's hit or miss regarding paying tax/duty at the border. I've been waved through without paying 40% of the time.
Looking at your parts list check out the C6 classifieds. You will probably find what you need at a good price.
