when is the best time to buy a used vette? i thought winter time but it seems like very low inventory by private sellers probably due that most are put away for the winter weather. any input if prices are better during winter or summer thanks
Before I purchased mine I waited a little and the best times people always mention are winter times when people have them garaged and looking at other projects so may use selling the Corvette as funds for other things. That said, I purchased mine in Fall and stumbled upon a deal that was at least $4k cheaper than every other vette with the same mileage, etc. within a 500mile radius. Keep an eye on Autotrader, Cars.com, and of course Facebook/Craigslist marketplace as well as the classifieds here, you may eventually find something that ends up being cheaper across the country and lets you drive it back home
prices will go up with the temperature. Sellers know this and generally withhold their cars because of this, and the fact that a lot are put away for the winter.
The best time to buy? Its when you find the one that's exactly what you want. then jump on it before someone else does.
Process begins now w/ having a clear budget and finances set to go, immediately.
Find the right one and there'll surely be others ready to move so don't foot drag.
Start monitoring sales sources now, may not be many available at this time but that'll rapidly change.

Same as any other 'sports car', Fall/Winter, for obvious reasons.
'Rule' mostly applies to regions north of Mason-Dixon, though.
In the greater south sports car market's active year round so pricing's steady w/ no $ dips/rises per se.
Best time to buy in your area might be Fall as people are looking at having to store their car during the winter for several months. Sellers would be more willing to reduce price to avoid storage fees/costs and insurance on an unused car.
During the winter in NY, there may not be as many active sellers as they have already stored their cars and would not be able to drive them in snow/ ice.
If you are searching other parts of the country, you'll probably find good deals in the fall and winter.

Right now there are almost 7,000 (6880) Corvettes; 2,000 C6s for sale across the lower 48 on just one national site (cars.com). How much inventory do you need? Prices are probably better right now. I wouldn't wait until the first "nice" spring days across the country to start shopping a fair weather car, especially if you're shopping a vert.
The best time to buy a vette is as soon as possible, and you have the money.
Prices do tend to be lower in winter, but so is the supply. So you're dealing with reduced variety to choose from.
Paraphrasing FAUEE's previous posts on the topic of how and when to buy, if you find the car you want, get it. Don't pass something up for a few hundred dollars difference. There's no enjoyment in shopping, there's happiness in driving.
Overall I think seasonal and regional pricing differences are pretty much gone in the age of internet shopping.
C6s are just used cars, they're not vintage collector vehicles. They depreciate a little more every day. I supposed there may be some more ultra low miles garage queens being advertised in the spring by owners who are, um, proud of their cars.
I think there is some truth to feeling that you get a better buy on Corvettes in the off season/winter. Certainly valid on a new car purchase. However with used cars I prefer to buy from individuals. Better chance to size up the integrity of the owner and the car. Not to say a nice "certified" used car with an owner/service history from a reputable dealer should not be considered as well. In many instances Corvettes become available at no particular time due to life events such as poor health, divorce etc. Be patient, good cars are waiting to be found.

Sales are not really seasonal...Agreed in the north they are not jumping off lot but a lot of the country Vette season is year round so the winter swoon can be overstated.
The trick is to decide what and then find it and do it. I missed some great deals over the years contemplating and not buying..

Wait. Be patient. Get the color, trim, options you want now or you will regret it later. Be picky. I shopped for 7 months before I found THE ONE.
I think "best time" is relative. I bought mine right as the weather was breaking last spring and I got a hell of a deal on it. Even after factoring travel costs (the car was 6 hours away). It just so happened that it was this salesman's first Vette deal and the dealership had been sitting on it for over 90 days.
If you can float the difference the fair weather brings with the prices.... the best time to buy is when the weather is right for you to drive it!!
The best time to buy; when you find a deal you can’t pass up. The reality today, the used Corvette is flooded and will get worst as the C8 is introduced. Bottom line, buy it when you see one you can’t leave behind.
I actually did a little research on this while I was shopping for my GS last year. It appears that the lowest prices for used Corvettes are between January 20th and February 20th. I pulled this chart from cargurus. You've got a month, make it happen

Right NOW!!! the dead of winter and Fall are the best times to buy a Vette, I drove 476 miles a day after a snow storm to buy my brand new 10' GS.
