C6 Z06 addressing Heads
I’m sure this questions has been beat to the ground but still trying to decide! I have a 2010 Z06 with 48K miles. I’ve had the heads checked (Valve guides and Valves) by a GMC dealership without removing the heads which found no signs of any problems. Just for insurance/ease of conscious when I purchased the car in the past few months I purchased a 2 year/20,000 mile drivetrain warranty. If I decide to go ahead and address the potential head problems, what is the least amount of work recommended? I’m not looking for more power, I feel like in stock form the LS7 is adequate for my needs. If I decide to upgrade to a C7 down the road, for resale purposes what head work if any would you recommend? Would you recommend using a GM dealership or a known speed shop thats familiar with the LS7 engines and tuning? Oregon.....thanks

I guess if I went with AHP and just purchased their Heads ($1,398.00) and Head Install Kit ($429.00), I could always just sell my stock heads and recapture some of the expense vs possibly sending my heads to Lingenfelter and having them rebuild my heads (ported, Titanium Intake Valves-Hollow stemmed sodium filled Exhaust Valves-LS7 Valve Springs and stock retainers. Locks & Seals) $1.095.00. Sounds like AHP has a better package. Thanks again, Happy New Year.

x 11 on the AHP, I’d spring for the MS90’s though. Give Khole a call he’ll set you up with what you need, no over sell or any of that ****, can’t say enough about those dudes. Call a few other places as well just so you have a broad understanding of what AHP is all about.

Is your warranty an aftermarket one? I'm assuming it is. I'd verify that the AHP head replacement option wouldn't interfere with it, just to be safe. Sometimes these warranty companies look for any excuse to void the contract. The risk is probably low but worth asking about.

Since you are just addressing head issue and not adding additional mods, why would you even consult your warranty company? When you consult them they would probably just put the comments in their files and deny any future claims looking for any reason to not cover you in the future. I, like you, had the option to by such a warranty, but decided to put my cash in the actual head fix. I'm in the Midwest, I don't drive my Z06 in the rain and winter, late Nov to mid March she is parked in the garage. Consider calculating actual time driven for two years, if not a daily driver, your money is better spent on head fix, especially if you feel you have purchased a solid car.

I checked with my extended drivetrain warranty company (Fidelity) who said if the factory approved the upgrade (replacing the valves and guides) that this would not Void the warranty! Here we go....CYA....I contacted Chevrolet and of course there isn’t no way they’re going to sign off on that, doing so would imply they acknowledge there is a potential problem! Well long story short, I can do one of two things! 1) Cash in my extended warranty (only 3 months old) cost $1,653.00 and get 86% of it back or 2) don’t worry about it, if she blows let the warranty pay for it. Common sinse tells me to go with #2 if no problem comes up ride it out and after the warranty runs out then address the head issue!

Not sure if I would consider it an upgrade, 5 ponies with basic fix from AHP. Option 2 leaves with the possibility of blowing your motor, stranded, pissed off and the down time it will take to fight it out with warranty company and repairs. I drove mine for about two weeks with 23K on the ODO before I couldn't take it anymore, it always seemed to be in the back of my mind as there will be no warning when it happens, it almost took the fun out of driving it. I think a lot here on the forum can at least agree with that statement.

Option 1 fails to address other problems covered by option 2 (most merely annoying, such as fuel level sensor, but others potentially catastrophic, such as soft cam), while option 2 may expire before the problem addressed by option 1 is encountered.

I have discussed having my heads redone with them as the guides are shot but could not get the either Fidelity or any shop other than AHP to work with me. Fidelity pretty much recommend driving it to failure and if they had to replace the engine, so be it. I decided that I will just bite the bullet, pull the heads, get the guides done and keep the warranty in case anything catastrophic happens.
