Pilot Sport 4S for C5
Hello Friends,
I am looking for a new set of tires, and the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires are being phased out for the newer Pilot Sport 4S.
I have a 2001 Corvette with the stock front 245/45 R17 and stock rear 275/40 R18 tires.
The PS4S has an exact size fit for the front 245/45 R17, however they are not currently offering the matching rear size of 275/40 R18. They do offer lower profile tire sizes that may be a match in the PS4S.
I wanted to hear your opinion on the following Pilot Sport 4S options that may work:
Option 1: Exact Match Front 245/45 R17, and a lower profile 275/35 R18 rear. Will this work? Any problems?
Option 2: Lower Profile Front . 245/40 R17, and a lower profile 275/35 R18 rear. Both have a lower profile diameter by about 4%. Would this work?
I understand the diameters of the lower profile tires will create a speedometer miscalculation. Just want to be sure the traction control isn't going to hay-wire. :-)
Anyone running PS4S on stock C5 rims?
Any thoughts on the options above?

I’ve read that the rear tire diameter should be between .5” to 1.5” greater than the front tire diameter to avoid issues. In your first option, the rear tire diameter is actually less than the front tire (by 0.1”), so you may have problems. The second option rear tire diameter is about 0.9” greater than the front, so it falls within the desired differential.
Are you set on the Michelin 4S? If not, forum members seem to like the Hankook Ventus and the Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires. Those are available in stock sizes.

Michelin makes a great tire. Ask the people at Tire Rack =left877-353-5082 what sizes would be best for you.

I agree on the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO tires - ran them for years on the C5 I had and was very pleased with them.

In summary, I just don't see the reality of the assertion that even tire diameter leads to "issues". I've got none to speak of for a lot of miles.
