Alternative Source For Steering Rack
Short Version: last year the magnasteer failed on my steering rack. It was replaced with a rebuilt rack.
Recently found the rebuilt rack was leaking from every place that it could. So I took it back to the shop that did the work. The company that sold the rack wanted the leaking rack back 1st. Ok, I understand, maybe they have been screwed before.
I dropped my car off on the 7th so they could pull the rack and send it back. I was told a couple weeks because of shipping back and forth. Not happy, but I understand.
I e-mailed the shop yesterday for an update and she was calling this morning and I was just e-mailed...
I just got off the phone with them and she said it will be at least another 2-4 weeks. I said I really need it before that and she said that she was going to send a request in for rushed services. As soon as I know when its coming I will let you know.
My response to this was:
Thank You. While I appreciate your efforts, this should have been rushed from the get go. They already sold us a rack that leaked. I'll buy a rack from a different source myself before I wait another month. That's ridiculous.
So, I'm reaching here. I need a source for a steering rack that wont require a core, because right now, I don't have one. Now, perhaps this company will come through and in the next day or two I'll find out it they shipped a rack to the shop, but I want to work on this as well. At this point I'd rather have two racks on the way than none at all. This is BS. Engines are built faster than this.

Please let us know which company is providing this terrible customer service and low quality rebuilt rack so that we can avoid them...

Understandably, if I buy and bring them parts, any issues with those parts are on me. If they buy them, it's on them. So with something like this, I let them handle it.
I actually already bought another rack on E-bay from a seller with a good rating after starting this thread. I have not told the shop this yet, but whichever rack is here 1st, that's what will be installed. The e-bay listing stated they had 10 in stock.
If an aftermarket company made a NEW steering rack for these cars, it would sell-easily. This is not the 1st thread where somebody needs a 2nd or even a 3rd steering rack. Not all of the companies doing rebuilds are doing a good job.
So, I'll probably end up with a spare rack, which I'm fine with at this point. I want my damn car back in working order.

Sounds like you have a source just in case. Hope things work out for you.

I know. It was more of a sarcastic rolling of the eyes than anything else. Just a frustrating situation for me. Two things in life that I hate-wasting time and having to do things twice. That's what happening right now with my car because I trusted that the supplier would come through.
