Hey Guys,

Im literally dying to take my Vette out...it's been a real long winter here. Question...today it's my father's 80th BDay and he lives about 120 miles from me and he hasn't seen my Vette yet.

QUESTION: Is it really bad for my run-flat tires to drive when it's going to be between 35 to 40 degrees today?

Im dying to take it and show him but its not worth damaging the tires.

I'm driven my 2019 GS in weather as cold as 21F with EOM tires. It definitely suffers from loss of grip, no question about it. But, put it in weather mod, the car is drivable and safe. Use common sense, the grip is not there like at 70F so the car does not hold curves and brake like you are accustomed to feeling. Hard acceleration will also have more tire slippage and wiggle.

same here driven in upper 20s rather i didnt have to but taking it slower than normal its been ok no bad issues totally agree with mayor111

I have driven my car numerous times at around 30-35 and zero problems. The only issues are under quick acceleration with a little wheel spin. That is it! Don’t hesitate about driving your car-just drive it normally and not like it is a sports car.

Mayor111, it’s your dad’s 80th birthday and he hasn’t seen your Corvette yet. No brainer, take your Corvette to see your dad. Your tires will be fine; besides, your dad is more important than tires. Let us know what he thinks of it and maybe take a picture.

As I understand it, summer tires do not perform as well when driven under 40 degrees. It's not because they are run flats but due to the softer rubber compound used on summer rated tires. As others have said , drive it just don't be aggressive. You may feel more cupping when first starting but that should smooth out as the tires warm up.

Whenever I get a chance (roads clear) I take my Z51 out for a ride....
as stated before....just take it easy until they warm up....
you cannot drive it like you stole it.....very little grip when the tires are cold...

Drove my GS in 35 degrees today. Traction control light came on several times in just normal driving part throttle acceleration from traffic lights. Just drive very careful and give room for stopping.

This is my fifth winter with the OEM tires.... admittedly, we don't have harsh winters here in Texas... with that said I have driven my C7 in 20-degree weather with no problems - keep your foot out of the gas - I have 84,000 miles on my '15......

If I lived in Minnesota, I'd think long and hard about a C7 DD. But I live in S AZ where it is a wintry 55 and sunny today. Even with our seemingly endless summer, the OEM make a disconcerting noise on occasion. Comes with the territory which I like a lot.

I don't see how an answer to your question could be quantified as you seem to ask for. As suggested, the "answer," such as it is, is in the Manual as posted by TNSQUIRE.

As long as you are not planning to do anything stupid like: turning the traction control off and the applying full throttle while coming around a tight turn, you will be fine. The Michelin's don't like cold roads and will protest by reducing grip to about as much as a Suburban with 10 year old mostly bald tires has, but at above 25 degrees, there is no risk of harming the tires.
Just drive cautiously and you will enjoy the day.

I have driven my Z a few times in those conditions on both dry and wet roads. Car/tires were fine just need to avoid aggressive acceleration.

Drove the Vette 200 miles today - it's now 33 degrees and the car drove beautifully. No issues, didn't drive crazy, but kept it at 75 MPH the entire trip. Seats felt harder than the tires...

Thanks for all the good posts gang!! My Dad loved the Vette...which made the trip worth it...

It's hovering in the mid 30s, here all day. Raining now. My run flats are perfect. Regardless the weather conditions.

Shouldn't be a problem. Just don't use the throttle aggressively when taking off from a light or accelerating to pass another car. I drive my car a fair amount in that temperature range without any issues at all.
